Don, think if we get enough cactus beer into Kalifornia it would end the drought?

You may want to start off with one instead of a 6-pac - mighty potent.

My gravel road is now passable, but the first bridge I come to is not. The water level here is still rising from the run-off.

They must not update gravel roads - still have about 2' of water going across the road.

Our neighbors are in Wimberly Tx - they had 13" of rain bridges are washed out - 300 homes gone - very serious. Their most rain in recorded history.

Still on the hill/ island.

That's nasty weather. All the snakes are on the hill by now too. :D 300 homes gone, whew. Hard to imagine 13" of rain. I know 4" will start doing damage around here, taking out road culverts, berms and such.

OK, Don, I'll be careful with that cactus beer.

Probably a good time to hunt and kill that big rattler, too.

BTW, do they make waterproof snake boots? Now would be a good time to have some. :D

Sorry about your hand.

Don, that shiner any good? I like me a cold bud light lime or a shiner bock.

Kyle I think you would like this beer it has a light hint of fruity kool-aid. - about the best I can describe it. I like it - but then I still have not found a beer I did not like. I think I prefer it over the Bock.

Gary the deck looks rejuvenated and nice. A deck composite or vinyl board for a top of the railing would give you a place to set your beer. :D They wouldn't cup or warp like PT is likely to do in that situation. I like the natural flag stone patio too.

I asked for Shiner beer once at the convenience store here that carries a lot of beer brands, No luck.

So Farmer, I have two chickens to split and put on the wood fire grill tomorrow morning. No fryers in the meat case!, just medium and large roasters. I'll grill them until they are about 1/2-3/4 done and get the wood flavor then finish them in the oven. Some rice, tomatoes and chopped onion; that will be tomorrow's eats.

Enjoy the holiday and remember those who served.

Smart man! There's a lot of folks who would have tried driving through that...

Hey Don, Be careful with all that water. We had some hurricanes blow through here a few years back and were stranded for weeks, and we were the lucky ones.

The deck looks like a gray composite, nice and uniform.

No luck on the big snake hunt.

Nice sunny evening and things are getting back to normal, all our water is receding.
I just did a runabout and checked our bridges 2 out of 3 are now passable with only 2" or less of water on the road. The other has about 8", running fast, and even though I did see a SUV go through it, I turned around, it looked too risky since the road was not visible. Funny thing - that was the only one that was not closed with barricades.

NIce job on the deck over. My neighbor did his last year and looks good. I think my wood is too far gone to put it on, but might try.

Our church did a pig roast yesterday where we cooked the pig ourselves. It turned out real good, first time we had done one. A guy built a bbq pit with dry stacked block, some blocks inside to hold the metal rack, and covered it with some light sheet metal. hole on one end to build the fire. 150# pig took about 10 hrs to cook with "oven" temp maintained around 250. he had temp probes in both ends of the pig and one to monitor the pit temperature. It would alarm if the temp got too low. Used hickory wood. The meat just fell off the bone when we took it out. We invited the whole neighborhood around us for a free meal, we feed over 130 people. We ended up with more meat left over than what was eaten. The weather was absolutely perfect. My oldest son built a bunch of picnic tables for the church a few yrs ago for his Eagle Scout project, this is the first time we had gotten to use them all.

Don, glad to see the floods going down. I thought we were going to see ARK plans in the projects forum.

Everyone have a good memorial day!

Have a good one guys!!

Gary, good job on the deck. And since the pic's are from the doorstep, you must not have painted yourself into the corner. :)

Now, when are we having barley pop drinks on the porch???

That sounds like a good meal Dave. Except you can keep the onion. Can't eat those. Like my FIL use to say:"Eat more chicken, it's good for business."

Don good to hear your drying out. The rain is headed this way. Supposed to be raining by daylight and not a day in the 10 day forecast with rain chances below 50%.

Today is warm enough for the weeds to grow some more, not quite warm enough to sit outside for breakfast.

Eric, we've all shot things that couldn't be seen through the telescopic sight, but not many of them were a mirror on a Honda! Is a special permit required to take one of those, and is there a bag limit?

Definitely close season. :) Nothing said so far, very strange, not like my eagle eyed wife to miss something like that. Perhaps she knows something I don't.

To play on the safe side I brought some timber over IMG_20150524_181145[1].jpg in case I need to make a bigger dog house (actually, dog lives inside).

Grandson coming to stay. He's almost 5 now and has an aversion to sleep. I may be too exhausted to post for a while, but in a good way.

Need to get coffee started brewing. 59° with cloudy skies this morning. Heading to 78° with a chance of thunderstorms. So far all the storms from the south have been splitting off the the north and south of Michigan. Not good. Will not take long and we will have a brown grass. Doing some small projects today.
txdon, good plan staying out of the water over road conditions.
Gary, nice job on the deck.
Memorial Day, remember a minute of silence at 3pm to honor all that have died in their service to our nation.
Good Morning All.

3pm got it.
Happy Memorial Day, Happy Birthdays, happy day off.
And a nice day to sit out on a beautiful "new" deck.
Weather is great at least on the East Coast, so if Texas would give some rain to California...
With a water pipeline instead of just oil or gas, we might be able to do that someday.

Almost every day I read where some police officer or fireman dies in the line of duty.
And I have lived through enough wars that I've seen folks I know not come back.
But other than my namesake uncle dying as a merchant marine sailor during WWII off the coast of this very state,
this kind of violence and sacrifice has not touched my family. Very, very grateful for that.

Today really is a very special day. When else do we say thank you to the folks who gave it all?
Hopefully by respect and support given to those in emergency services or the military.

Gary, beautiful job on the deck over.

300U - happy belated birthday to your wife.

Buckeye - sounds like a great time at your bar-b-que.
