If was too hot in South Louisiana so I went to Alaska for a break. I’m in Ketchikan right now and it’s 74 degrees and feels like 82.
Sometimes you just can’t win.
Please fill your pockets and suitcases to bring some cool air back down south here... ughh.

It's hard keeping up with you guys.

Prayers for our team, our country, and Ukraine.

Didn't take long to find leak...
1 of the fan motors was bad. So new radiator, new fans, new HVAC kit coming.

Yesterday and Friday I got a whole lot of things done.

Air compressor reports:
Speedaire had been throwing sparks in the engine. I took it apart. Couldn't really find anything but the bearing on the starter contacter end was crummy, so I replaced it. Also made sure all the wiring was clear of rotating centripetal force assembly. Put it back together, ran it only once, looked ok, but it doesn't throw sparks until it's hot (like when it has to run continuous), so more examination req'd. Keeping breaker off at all times, only run it while I'm right there.
Old "Made in Usa" Campbell Hausfeld, It has a breaker switch that is an "all in one" unit that comprises the pressure switch, gages, et al. Can't get them anymore. The only thing seemingly wrong with it is the on/off, or auto/off switch is not working correctly. Probably small part that makes it "click" inside is broken. Anyway it still works whenever you plug it in, runs up to 125psi and shuts off. I put a 90 elbow with an extension hose and valve for the new drain cock on it. Changed the oil in the twin cylinder compressor. Didn't have 30 wt, so I put some 20-40 diesel oil in it for now. Found the 30 wt hiding in the stuff later.

I've spent a lot of time 'puttering shopping to get things ordered for daughter's car.

Millermatic 250 update. Yesterday, when it was so hot in the afternoon, I thought maybe I could knock out 2 things at once....So invited wifey on a date to eat in Bryan College Station with a side stop. We stopped at my work. I took some tools to actually hook up the welder to see if it would weld. I did not hook up any gas, but I got it loaded with wire and plugged in. Seemed to weld as good as can be without gas. I know the transformer is no longer available for this model. I'm finding out that Miller is NOT John Deere when it comes to keeping parts available for older equipment. I've run across this trying to get parts for the Syncrowave 250 at my old job. It looks like new, yet many of the water cooler parts are obsolete.

Anyway, me and the wifey went to a nice quiet Chinese restaurant for a nice supper, then came back home.

Seems to be some big Mig welders are still heavy copper and transformers, and some have gone the IGBT way. Guys online debate as to which works best and for what.

"I'm finding out that Miller is NOT John Deere when it comes to keeping parts available for older equipment"

Aren't many of those welding equipment companies owned by the Chinese? If so, that may have changed the company culture. Of course is doesn't take Chinese to screw up a company plenty of private equity companies screw up the companies they buy.

Good morning to all! Low of 52°, only up to 55° at 09:30, maybe we'll hit the forecasted high of 66°.

Awoke to the gentle patter of rain drops on the roof. Low clouds, foggy, and a gentle light rain... nice! Chances are good for periods of heavy rain. I hope we are in the path. We can use all we can get.

The agenda for today was abruptly cancelled due to the rain. So far, I've come up with a couple alternatives.... clean the tractor joints and give it some fresh grease. I usually pull the tractor out to grease it, gives me more room to move around.
OR..... bring an RC plane in and do some rehab / setup on it. I may try to do both. This will probably work better for me. Quiet and relaxing.

Scaredy, you on the way? I have enough leftovers for a couple more sandwiches. I grew up in the Philly area and cheesesteaks were a staple food. When we moved out here, none to be had. I used to have the butcher "shave" a roast to make the meat suitable, he always looked at me strangely. It was years before I found a restaurant supplier that I could get the meat from. Only problem is having to buy 20lbs at a time. It freezes well.

Wng, I would rather be out hiking than be in a gym any day! Especially with a beautiful area like you have. My days of hiking and backpacking are over. Now it's limited to 'glamping' in the RV.

BEF, do you mean this bench?

image.jpgWe sit on it almost everyday. It's due for another coat of preservative. We're going to move it out in the courtyard when we get that done.
I bet the kitties and the tube provide wonderful entertainment for hours!

Drew, beautiful area, thanks for posting the pics. How far are you from the cabin? Hope you get a long ride on the cart through that scenery!

Phil, great to hear that you're feeling good. It is amazing how loosing weight makes one feel so much better. I have lost 40lbs over the last year, made a really big difference. I have been "stuck" at the 40lb mark.... seems I gain 1 or 2 pounds, then loose 2-3, then gain them back.... I'm trying for another 10lb loss.....

RS, what are you going to do when you run out of flower beds? Gonna have to infringe on the lawn area.....

PopG, have a nice flight. Hopefully no 'seat of the pants' incidents.

Kyle, have you ever thought of starting your own repair business? You can probably fix anything! That radiator sure blew out! Did the water pump go out or do you think it was because of the fan?

Roy, I bet you're glad the mowing is done. Enjoy the rest of the day!

Time to go get into something.... still raining.

Eveyone have a great day!

68°F and .14 inches rain

A fair amount of yesterday’s time was busy, but less than productive. Weedeater managed to throw a small rock into sliding patio door resulting in a million shards of tempered glass scattered both in and outside. Cleaned up but I wouldn’t swear there still isn’t a shard or two lurching. Of course, being Sat the only potential repair place was closed. Sophie seems to prefer I replace with Lexan.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

WU say 81F and partly cloudy @ 13:00, looks like mostly cloudy to me. HI 85F, DP 69 so probably a bit thick out there right now.

Says chance of rain is down to 51% at this point, sure hope we get some ... the ground is a lot drier than the air is. But it looks like most of the shower activity has moved off to the east.

Gold finch out on one of the nyjer feeders.

A number of dahlias have a bunch of blooms that are about ready to pop open.

Last night I emptied the chipmunk trap by pouring the water through a colander to recover the sunflower seeds since no chipmunks caught yesterday and the trap hadn't been fouled.

Will try and reuse those when I set it up here in a few.

Grass down here around the house needs cut but I think I'll hold off for now and see if we get any rain.

Not sure what all I will get into today, need to figure out direction to go ... no shortage of possibilities.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe Sunday ... (y)
