Thomas, we have one chipmunk that has not hibernated all winter, while all the others have. Unshelled peanuts are its favorite food. It was even up running around in the snow. Strange to see.
You must feed them really good :) no chipmunks here plenty of gray squirrels 10-14 each morning until fox or owl comes by.

There was a lone chipmunk diving off pile of leaves yesterday on the back deck entertaining to say the least

Good Morning.
15 and going into the 30’s under a bright sun and blue sky.

Yesterday was cold and windy with some significant snow squalls. No accumulation, impressive nonetheless.
My day started with looking at a friends daughters heater. She was having very high electric bills. He wasn’t sure if it was a heat pump or just an electric furnace. Turns out it was a heat pump, a new one at that. But it had the wrong thermostat, it never called for heat from the heat pump, only the resistance backup heat. Installed a new thermostat and wired correctly, and they were off to the races.

Next stop was to the hangar to make some progress there. I brought the primer nozzles home to clean them, a swim in the ultrasonic cleaner made them like new.

Met another friend on the way home that brought me some ratchet chain binders from his shop. I bought them to give to another friend that just got a 20 ton trailer to move his excavator.

By the time I got home youngest son and daughter were there. They came by to do some pistol shooting, have dinner, and visit with Emily.

6° right now...high about 30 or so...

We hung a bird feeder up on the back deck (it's a pergola, actually) a month or so back. Boy, wish I could claim them birds as dependents! They're eating us out of house and home!
Fun watching them though... Recently had a couple squirrels discover the feeder and they've been regular visitors too. Although the squirrels have tried, they can't eat out of the feeder, but the birds drop plenty on the deck
Margeaux goes nuts when she sees the birds or the squirrels (especially the squirrels)

No plans today...

Started this post about an hour ago...finally got back to finish and post it

Good morning! 18 now, was 9 when I got up around 4 and stoked up the wood burner. Allegedly going to 47 today. Sunny with clear skies right now.

Gas was off again during the night. The gas well is misbehaving after the warm temps, rain, then freeze. Fortunately the wood burner kept things comfortable.

I use the wet paper towel and ashes to clean the wood burner glass too. Works fairly well. My wife uses the cleaner for the glass top stove. That works pretty well too.

Puttered in the garage yesterday. Likely the same today.

Nice work on those cylinder rods Kyle. Most people would have replaced them.

Everyone stay safe out there!

Good morning all! Slept in nicely this morning (rare), and just finishing my 1st cup of coffee.

It is warming up big time today, all the way up to the freezing mark for a change. This is had to be the coldest winter in 20 years since we got this place! Not a huge amount of snow until the last couple three days, so I got to use the blower on three different driveways. We had had some rain a while ago, and so the ice underneath the snow is almost slushy. My augers on the blower now are just coated with ice, and so I decided to wait overnight for the warm weather to try and chip it off. Surprisingly, neither the chute nor the auger got clogged with the slushy snow. In fact, since I got it, the chute has only been clogged once.

Meanwhile, my daughter came up with the wife for this family day weekend, which is a holiday here in Ontario. The kid is very athletic, and she loves to shovel snow! Fortunately for her, we had two nice snowfalls since she got here, and so she was having so much fun clearing our big huge deck in front of the cottage. Then she decided to clear a pathway down to the dock, and she said it practically killed her, because it had the whole winter’s full of multi layered frozen and snowy mess. Today I’m going to help her do the dock itself , which is 14‘ x 28‘. Then, with the warm weather, we are going to watch the sunset from down at the dock.

Wife wants me to move a big shelving unit for paint cans and supplies into my work room closet in the basement, so that will be quite a job. We are getting ready to finish the basement, so we need to get all the junk out of the way. Then, put OSB on the walls first, and then probably tongue and groove. Will also put in a basement kitchen, and a third bathroom. It has been 20 years since we built the place, so holy take it slow, Batman! The kid wants us to get it done before we die of old age, and then she says she can take the upstairs with her family when she gets one, and we can live downstairs like trolls.

Have a good day y’all!

66°F and 0 rain

More piddling about the caretaker unit today. Seriously thinking about adding a shelf or two above the refrigerator.

My mowing is beginning to call again, but I want to finish inside the caretaker this week and begin furnishing and outfitting.

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day

39°F and clear skies this morning, going up to 58° today. Temps were warming through the night, as we were in the 20s late last night.

When we remodeled here, check, we removed the kitchen in the (already finished) walkout basement. Wife didn't want it there anymore because she didn't want to tempt her youngest son to live here indefinitely. Her quilting machine resides in that space now.
