good morning all
31 going up to 41 today and looks like light snow is starting shortly

finally our local county put up a registration site, and early this morning I signed up.
At age 70 I'm now a IA
Vaccine Registration * Starter Portal

have attorney appt this morning, guess I'll leave a little early since traffic is likely to be slow
New will, medical POA/Living Will, and springing legal POA. Dealt with this attorney a long time, smart
and very reasonable, sent me a bill for under 400 bucks for all the work. Usually it's between 500 and 1000, but this is probably
the third time he's redone my will so guess I'm getting the repeat discount.

Interestingly my second wife, the mistake, answered my letter to her home in Hawaii, and nice to catch up with her
after 20 years of no contact. She seems to be doing ok, considering she retired for psychological reasons, and has a positive outlook on life.
I'm honestly glad she is 5000 miles away. I remarried within one year of my first divorce, and boy like they say, a bad idea.** Next wife I lived with for five years
before marrying and was glad I did. Live and learn.

should be an interesting day in the world today

**though some get very lucky like Toppop

Good morning, the temperature is -2°F and going to a high of 16. Wind N 13 mph. A mix of sun and cloud.

The 'fun' will begin tonight, snow tonight and tomorrow.

Another energy conservation day. The morning is over 1/2 finished and I have only made this post.

Have a safe day all

Good morning all. Yesterday it rained almost all day, then it rained all night, now it looks like it will be raining all day and night again. So thankful that we live on high ground.

Ron, I'm well past the point of having to write notes, my problem is remembering where the note is :)

"Eric, are you gonna build a LoRa link at your place?"
I sure am, I have wanted to get hands on with LoRa for a few years. Originally my interest was fire detection in buildings, nowadays it is the potential for use in fields that has me captivated.

While Wifi and Bluetooth are great for close proximity high speed data, they are useless if you want to send small amounts of information longer distances. For many years things like weather stations or driveway alarms have used radio signals, however they can be temperamental and become expensive if you are want to go much further than 100 yards. For those that have not heard about it, LoRa (and it's French alternative called "Sigfox") uses revolutionary radio techniques to blow everything else away in terms of performance.

Lora chips originate from an American company called Semtech. Many companies now incorporate these (or far eastern copies) along with the other components needed for radio transmission into a module costing only a few dollars. I made one up into a little test transmitter and left the receiver inside, on the kitchen worktop. The digital info was being received when I got to the furthest boundary on our land, which would be 2/3rd mile away. They claim it can easily go for many miles and I have no reason to doubt that.

I have a few ideas on what I would like to make once I have done a little more proof-of-concept experimentation. As ever with electronics, the key to success is getting the mechanical packing right, so far I have a tentative alternative to the mainstream approach - I will share with all later if you promise not to laugh too much.

It is also possible to add more software and connect devices up to the internet through a "LoRaWan" gateway. A single gateway can be used to put the signals from hundreds of devices onto the internet (Sort of similar to the idea that a single 4G tower can support many mobile phones) No such public gateways seems to exist in this town, I will have a look at this side of things later.

Good Morning.
It’s 32 with a forecast high of 38. Snow showers just passed through, should be partly cloudy the rest of the day.

The heat in the Lodge was fine, the issue was all operator induced. All that was required to fix it was a little training and explaining the limitations and recover time from a low temperature setting.

The rest of the day was in the shop, one task was identifying all of the light bulbs on m Kubota for replacement with LEDs.

Great list Ron, they just about all apply to me.

As far as Bermuda, Hatteras is the closest US soil, but at only a few miles farther away, Nantucket is the closest with an air carrier sized airport or Harbor.

39 outside this AM. Heading to mid 40's. Nice and windy. Hoping the ground dries out, need to move some old fence posts from the back forty.

Checked on neighbors from driveway, told them over phone, if they need something....

Talked with neighbor on back forty, needs a different muffler system on his ride, spooked horse right through fence, driving up and down by creek bed. Will see how that goes, I think it's a problem when I can hear his ride in my house which is a 1/4 mile away from where he is riding.

Hope all have a great day. Be safe and stay healthy my friends.

I thought you'd say Nantucket or the Vineyard, since you fly there...but don't forget both Hatteras Village/Frisco and Ocracoke have harbors and airstrips, and are closer.
