Certainly true for flu... possibly not so much with non-respiratory viruses ... like a virus that uses bodily fluids for transmission, like say Ebola.

Having said that, we knew going in that this was a novel virus ...

I would think that a conservative approach in such a case would dictate caution ... until we better understood exactly what we were dealing with.

It's also relatively easy to be careful ... wear a mask and socially distance.

I’m not seeing where I disagree with you. I’m just saying it was an easy leap early on when it was considered a respiratory only virus. Now they know better, thus the hindsight comment.

40 and a sky full of stars. Looking for a beautiful 65 to continue the drying phase of our soaked landscape.

The first hard freeze and 20s of the prior two nights knocked all the leaves off the royal paulownia, so will mow/shred them and the remaining maple and oak leaves today and clean up the zero for winter.

Happy Early Thanksgiving, Luther. Yum.

Visited my mom yesterday. 89 and gets around so well and sharp as a tack. First time we've seen her since the C.virus invasion. Did some chores for her, and brought in some Brunswick stew from the best chicken joint in Virginia Beach for lunch. Always good seeing aircraft carriers in Norfolk driving across the bridge-tunnel, and fighter jets flying touch and go at Oceana at the beach.

I was in VA Beach out near Oceana in about 1982, had beautiful view when one of the carriers was exchanging its F-4s for F-14s, of course I couldn’t see the ship but there were droves of planes.

An outfit (VF 31) at NAS Oceana was my first duty station after technical training. This was in the early 1970's. We deployed on the USS Saratoga out of Mayport, Florida
VF 31 was flying F-4 Phantom II aircraft at the time...an outstanding aircraft!

42 going up to 64- was a nice sunny day for a trip
Went, for the last time, to my current office in Mid-Town.
Clear out the desk for our move to another building.
No traffic, not many tourists out in the usual spot. NY library has huge masks on the lions. Finally took my kid up there last yea to show him the areas they shot Ghostbusters.
Very different city then when I left to work remote in March. Sad to say goodbye to the building people since they are staying behind for the next (hopefully) tenant. Great team.
Will be down town again. I have worked in about a dozen different buildings in NYC during my career so far, but this new one is by where my old one was before 9/11 so a bit emotional every time I go down there. Nice new buildings though and a bizarre train station (the Oculus)

Stay safe and be well. Hopefully will get some outdoors time this weekend. So many projects I want to do.

My late wife was an RN for years, and doctor for the last 28 year of her life, she worked in infectious diseases before going into women’s health. She was medical supervisor for Tyson Foods in the Mid Atlantic region for several years. Just giving a background for what I’m going to say.
The flu vaccine CANNOT give you the flu, it’s a killed virus and only a small portion of it, it cannot replicate. Those that get symptoms after the vaccination are caused by your body’s immune response. Now if you were exposed just before or after the vaccination, of course you wouldn’t be protected. Flu vaccine runs normally 50-70% effective. In 2015 there was a rouge strain that showed up too late to add it to the vaccine and the vaccine was only 30-40% effective that year. But it still kept a large number of people from getting the flu. That is the only time I’ve had the flu since 1976 when I started getting the shots. The old nasal spray was a weakened virus and some people actually got the flu from it, they discontinued it, it was mostly kids that got it to avoid shots.

The Covid-19 vaccine has had rigorous testing, one reason it was done so fast was working three shifts seven days a week, instead of 8-5 Monday through Friday. The government paid drug companies large sums of money for developing the vaccines. This is one of the most effective vaccines ever developed for widespread diseases. It’s also one of the safest ever. Every person that gets one will stop 50+ people from being exposed over the coming months, and and all those won’t pass it if they don’t become infected. It breaks the chain of infection. Please consider getting the vaccines, both flu and Covid-19.
Those with GBS should not get the flu shot, haven’t heard anything about the Covid-19 vaccine in this regard.

Yea, that's why the government has indemnified them from any responsibilities when the vaccines are administered to people.
And how can anyone have any idea of what may transpire 2 to 10 years from taking it.
Those pharmaceuticals always work 24/7 especially for any kind of product that has to be grown or cultured.

Is it grown or cultured if it is a mRNA vaccine? So much to learn in a short time. They project by June everyone that want's the vaccine will have it.

"Much of the fear over vaccines can be divided into two worries: being injected with a live virus and contracting the disease; being injected with a dead virus that contains virus-killing compounds like mercury -- and becoming ill from virus-killing compounds.
These arguments all have some validity."

However "This Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine puts both of these arguments to rest because neither a virus (alive or dead) nor toxic chemicals are being used.

Using a new technology (mRNA vaccine), no virus is in the actual vaccine. All human cells use DNA to make messenger RNA (mRNA) molecules. mRNA is the template for the cell to make proteins. An mRNA strand coding for a virus-specific antigen is used as the vaccine.

Once the mRNA strand is inside the body's cells, the cells use this genetic information to produce this specific antigen on the cell's surface. This antigen causes the immune system to react, creating immunity. In the case of the Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine, the mRNA is coated with fat and this fat capsule encourages entry into the human cells. With this new technology there is no risk of becoming infected by the virus and no anti-viral compounds like mercury are used."
COVID vaccine will be different from common vaccines

I can see proof of vaccination will be required just like a passport, and for flights and cruises.

Lou, all I have to say is 10 years is not as big a concern for me, as is the next 6 months. But thankfully we can choose our paths and all must follow their hearts.

I have read that there is some question if the mRNA vaccines prevent you from becoming infected or just keep you from having symptoms. Might need masks still.
