Good morning!!!!

Good Morning!!!! 50F @ 4:00AM. Sunny. High 79F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.
AQI 20 and 87, inside and out. For the first time in a long time, there are no red hot spots anywhere in the North Complex Fire area this morning. And yesterday, CA70 through the Feather River Canyon opened for two way traffic all the way to US395 near Reno, though there are a still a few stops along the way for road construction. But the cold front that was supposed to bring us the first real rain since June is falling apart, and at best we'll see maybe a few hundredths of an inch, if that. And now PG&E is warning that another round of power shutoffs will start on Sunday.:irked:

Good luck getting your biological clock reset, Phil. But it sounds like your last week at work went well.

That's some good news, Rich, as long as the new manager walks the talk.

Don't need any cranes pecking at the weather station, right Ron?

Mike, sounds like you and Bruce put some nasty jobs behind you. Hope there aren't too many more of those left.

I use one of those HF torches too, Rick, but the one I have has a piezo sparker on it. The insulation on the wires went bad and now I use a hand held sparker from the oxy/acetylene outfit to get it going. And I got a little two gallon tank to run it. It's a lot easier on the arms and back. Put a magnet on the top to keep the sparker handy, too. Gonna get a lot of use once it starts raining. Neighbor lady showed me how to soak rags in #2 Diesel and use a stick to push them deep into the burn pile to help get a fire started. And her husband suggested that used motor oil would help if the wood was wet. He also suggested tarping the middle of the pile to keep it dry until it was time to burn.

Starting your next big adventure, Drew. Congratulations!

Got the replacement top'n'tilt valve put back on the tractor yesterday, and only had one leak. Not bad considering there were nine hoses going to/from that cluster, and all it took was to tighten one of the fittings.:confused2: Cut the broken eye off the top cylinder and welded a new one on, then hit it with some paint so it wouldn't rust. The moment of truth comes today when I put the box blade back on and see if the new valve holds its adjustment under pressure.

The new tooth bar showed up yesterday, so I'll see how well it fits today. :crossfingers: on that one, too, as the location of the mounting holes is based on my measurements.

With a chance of rain in the forecast, I need to get up on the ladder again and put plastic bags over the Unifi access points I installed outside. Turns out they're only weather resistant, not waterproof as the advertising seems to indicate. :grumpy: They're UAP-AC-PRO models, David. I'm curious what you're up to as well. ;)

Good morning all. The blank firing teaser tups (vasectomised rams) are now out, replaced by three old timer rams and two young rams. One young ram is quite small, when he first arrived he looked a little apprehensive, as if he didn't understand why he was getting so much attention from a bunch of ewes who are a couple of years older than he is. Now he has worked out why, he can't believe his luck and seems intent on making the most of it.

Randy, I am still ripping jeans climbing over fences. Fortunately my wife takes it far better than my mother used to :)

LS, the lime is for pointing, thought I may be able to do a bit more next week when a drier spell spell is predicted. Now it is looking like it will turn frosty, so I may end up double bagging the 25kg paper sacks in polythene until next year.

Drew, safe journey as you go on to the next adventure.

Ken, here is a proof from a local paper that you were not dreaming about those hedgehog crisps.
Hedgehog Crisps''' Welshpool inventor dies, aged 74 | Shropshire Star

Interesting about those crisps, but more interesting - What about the pic of that woman's belly!!! Is that real? And is that really Celine? Inquiring minds want to know.

I bought my original HF Torch about 2005 .. I recall it was about $20 and used a 20% coupon so .. about $16. The one with the piezoelectric igniter was $10 more. One of my neighbors liked mine so well he went and bought the fancy one and no coupon so .. about $30. His fancy igniter .. lasted less than a month.

HF had a recall on them last year due to a problem with the valve. The only problem I had with mine was the hose (Chinese rubber) was getting very stif and I was getting concerned about it. I was pretty sure mine was before the recalled ones but took it with me to the HF store. The store manager looked it up and confirmed it was from before the bad ones but, like me, he was concerned about the hose and he handed me a new unit and sent me on my way.

I use standard 20# propane cylinders. I discovered, way back in the 70's, that they fit perfectly into a milk crate which prevents them from tipping over in the back of the truck or in the bed of our Polaris Ranger. I think I've got at least four milk crates. Feel free .. to steal my idea.

The striker is kept in place by the valve.

Good morning , 53 going up to 72 and sunny (wunderground says low of 56 and it's 53, I guess the computer doesn't check itself!)
Did not get to finish mower yesterday-wife wanted poke, so off we went for pickup, time we got home sun was down.

Drew - hope the RV sale goes as planned. So far it looks like rain starts around 6pm Sunday
Buppies - both tanks at the same time-hope it goes better than you assume
Phil - sounds like you are doing the proper get in shape for retirement- We hope it's a long and happy one for you
rip-sounds like your to do list is getting bigger - trying to catch up with RS ?
Rich - sounds like new mgr. off to a good start.
Luther - I have not bothered with the leaves yet except my front and back lawn-too windy for the driveway and other fields-and still plenty of leaves to fall. But will need to get driveway done before rain at end of weekend
Ron-good luck with the furnace-and if the cranes don't like the hill, they can fix it :)
Eric - thank you so much for finding that link on hedgehog crisps-great story too
RNG- looks like fires are turning around- celebrations in order? Good luck with the TnT

Stay safe and be well

Good morning. It's 74° this morning .. going to 84° this afternoon. The 8 mph wind .. expected to increase over the day .. is higher than I'm comfortable with for burning so BP #7 will get a reprieve .. for now.

I got a text, from my Doctor friend, last evening. He feels like he's turned the corner, getting stronger, and breathing better. He's still on supplemental oxygen but .. no ventilator.

I decided to start yesterday with a overdue haircut / political discussion at the local barbershop .. on the courthouse square .. then a stop at H-E-B for pantry restock. Since I didn't burn yesterday I spent the balance of the morning cutting some volunteer oaks and Yaupons out of the ranch perimeter fence lines.

After lunch I spent some "quality time" on the Kubota ZT mowing the 9 acre yard around the house .. while listening (WorkTunes) to the Astros wrap up their division against the "A's. Now .. waiting to see who they face in the ALCS this Sunday. Yankees and Rays are tied 2-2

IMG_0497.jpg

Today will be more mowing .. in the 20 acre horse pasture with our New Holland.

Hope everyone has a great Friday and weekend.

Prayers to all.

,I’d like to see the Yankees and Dodgers for old time’s sake.

39° going to 73° today. Spent a couple of hours yesterday rearranging the garage I’d just cleaned up. Gotta make a Walmart grocery pick up today, might work on boat seats after it warms up, not ready to start the heater in there just yet. Got Ellen’s pretty pink bicycle aired up and ready for her to ride, now the countdown starts to see how long before she actually starts. LOL
Still have to put the vinyl top on the El Camino, got most of the prep work done. It’s sat so long it needs a new battery now, which it will get along with its own battery tender. Also going to install the battery switch we got yesterday. It sits for long periods and I want to avoid issues.

Drew, have a good move, you’re going to miss a lot about North Carolina, I still do after 47 years.
Have a good day all, God bless.

Good morning to all! Low of 46, going up to 84. Lots of records being broken for high temps for this time of year. No rain forecasted in the 10 days, but a cool down expected Monday.

Drew, good luck for the trip today, hope all goes smoothly with the RV transaction.

Yesterday, I was able to get the trailer welding all done, just a little bit of grinding needed to smooth the welds that will be under the metal deck. Then get a coat of paint on them. I'm not sure when I will get the deck metal, probably not for another week or so.

Hopefully the weather will break and I can start working on cutting the metal for the planned land plane build. The pieces are too big to move into the garage, so need to get cut in the driveway. It will make it a lot easier to maneuver the tractor around with the big pieces. I was fortunate enough to get the metal from my neighbor for free, it was all cut-offs from structural steel I-beams from a hospital they were working on.

Prayers sent for all those in the path of hurricane Delta. My neighbor left this past Tuesday with his 5th wheel RV to go to visit family in Lake Charles area. He messaged me yesterday, saying he diverted to Phoenix / Tucson area to visit other family first, just "flipping" his itinerary. He probably made a good decision.

Everyone have a great day and start to the weekend!

More heat, crank it up!

Nope ... trying to avoid a cascade of events: excessive heating of the yoke causing the adjacent pillow block bearing to fail.

I'm afraid major surgery is required ... :(

(Cut yoke along the slot for the key)

59F and fair @ 11:15, high headed up to 75F ... promises to be a beautiful day ...

Not one I'd really prefer to spend inside but oh well ...

Shoulder and elbow is feeling this morning after extended beating on the yoke yesterday.

Kinda hard to do ... since there isn't a lot of room to get behind it with the hammer. Plus it's low ... and that requires extended bending over.

Good case for making sure that anything that is prone to seizing or rusting on gets a good coat of anti-seize compound during assembly ...

Good news is that local TSC may have the yoke in stock, even if Akron Bearing does not ... need to verify the shaft diameter though.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day ... especially the Governor of our next door neighbor ...

Safe travel for your relocation Drew. Gotta be exciting!!!

Prayers for all
Be safe
Have a great day
