75 and rain, going to 85, and probably t-storms when the remnants get here.
Phil, those floors look great. You found a good craftsman. 40 days will fly by.
Ron, great hummingbird pic.
RS, hope that yellow jacket sting heals up today. Still not seeing the usual bunch around our hummingbird feeders this year, nor the bald face ones.
Ted, you definitely deserve a day off...but betcha can't go a whole day.
Mostly, what happened to your priorities...skipping a nap?
David, fresh spring rolls...nice.
Thomas, you asked about how we keep the bears from our bird feeders...I was set to reply that when the bears are active, we bring the feeders in, and that we only place enough food for the birds to finish by dark...but that very evening we had a big bear walk up the hill and grab the plastic sunflower tube and bite it open...then lie on the ground and lick up the seeds...so a failure on our plan. When he walked over to one of the hummingbird feeders I yelled and he ran what seemed as fast as a deer back down the hill. Last time I yelled, the group of 3 bears in the yard ignored me.
Got the rest of the mowing done in advance of the tropical depression, and suffered through the worst smell as I neared to road in the frisbee field...on the other side of the fence were about 10 vultures and lots of flies working on a dead deer/roadkill. Glad it is at the far corner of our property.
Took Coco to an internal specialist in the same group as the dermatologist. She works at the group's practice in both Florida and Richmond, and then flies home to Denver. She changed out some meds and thinks a month will tell us whether Coco can recover.
Came home and started hooking up the 3pt sprayer when a neighbor came by and asked me to dig a hole for a grave. So I put the tiller on instead as a counterweight and drove by the dead deer to his farm. They raise alpacas, used to have 60, but now just 24 and 4 llamas. They had a vet on the way to put an old and sick one down, but the backhoe man cancelled out. So with only a FEL, no backhoe and no toothbar, dug him an adequate hole and on the road home, the vet passed in his truck. So in no time, the vet left and I went back over to backfill...the lady was crying and upset...all the remaining alpacas have names and are pets. Very sad. They stopped breeding them a few years ago and are downsizing.
Another neighbor farmer that raises cattle is growing a big field of millet. At first I though he had just replanted his hay, but it started looking funny...now big seed heads. I've seen plenty fields of sorghum, but can't remember seeing one of millet.
Don, sorry about your BIL...recent scientific study says rare to catch Chinese flu outside..just not concentrated enough...so hope you can manage to have your reunion once everybody checks out okay. Early on we wiped down every grocery item, let the mail sit to "cool off" for a couple of days, used gloves in many situations...seems like that was mostly a waste. Early on it was Dr F. saying don't wear masks...then it became must wear masks, then it was masks can make you sick since you breathe your own wastes in concentrated form. We still wear masks in stores, etc, but it seems like common sense good hygiene (washing hands and covering a cough or sneeze) does the most at spreading any respiratory disease.
