Drew - sorry to hear of your friend's loss of his neighbor ... way too many lost needlessly ... :( Hope you enjoy your morning walk.

BEF - glad to hear you finally got some rain. Hope Dad is ok and no tornado. FWIW, my GM was a big fan of Murphy's oil soap for cleaning wood ... learned to love the smell of it.

David - glad you were successful on the acquisitions ... including the Baskins ...

MG - Hope you found cold air enjoyable ... would think it is a welcome change. Sorry about no nap ... :(

Ted - my GM didn't ever grill ... but she would often cook "loose meat" (hamburger) which had a particular taste to it as a main course in a pan. Dunno what all she used for seasoning (lost to time) but it did have onions in it (fond memories :D) Pulaski very handy for trenching ... learned that as a yout one summer (60' - 80' of 2' deep trench for 8" drain tiles in hard clay) Cart looking good ...

top - Good to hear you are feeling better. Hope they get your meds dialed in ...

Ron - nice pics (hummer and sky) ... hope you got tomatoes ... and that Sassy is behaving. Thanks for 11% heads up ...

Thomas - any sign of Peanut ?

Bup - hope no further bear issues.

Ohio man built backyard squirrel bar with seven varieties of nuts on tap | CNN Travel
all you critter feeders are going to have to up your game...
this gorgeous piece of woodworking looks like it would last one week outside getting mauled by squirrels, or
one hour if Boo the bear found it. And think about the cost of all those fancy nuts...

Too cute ...

Ours here are just going to have to settle for whatever they can forage off the ground below the feeders and the old peanut butter remnants when we clean out the near empty jars ...

LS, you sure know how to make us mortals look bad, both irrigation line AND welding cart in one day !
---Eric
LS, no pictures of the trench
---Ron

Eric, I am still procrastinating the electric trench... especially now that I remember how difficult manual labor is.... I may have to design and build a tooth trencher for the backhoe bucket....

Ron, didn't think about pictures.... I had to stay focused and determined to finish it.... I didn't take pics of the cart until hours later....

Drew, nice to hear that you are out and about and able to get on to somewhat of a routine.

RS, yes, you can get worsening reactions to stings, some people can actually get to the "severe anaphylaxis" reaction stage over a few years, and a few stings. All different levels of reaction can occur.

I hear of so many people having issues / trouble with dentures.... one of the best things that I ever had done.... There is nothing that I cannot eat... including stuff like jerky and corn on the cob... chew / break ice cubes. I don't use anything like denture adhesive either....

I am a bit sore / stiff this morning, so I think it will only be some shop time today. Finish up the fuel cart and maybe stare at the BH do get some ideas for a tooth scattering around in the head....

Everyone have a great day and start to the weekend!

Weather map does not show anything. But a brisk wind with moisture mixed in has come up. No painting today. Windows are clean.

Good morning! 70 now, maybe 81 later. It does look like the rain has moved out. It rained hard several times yesterday. Really needed the rain we got this week. Looks like the level of the pond came up.

The new ducks certainly enjoyed the rain. And as usual, one of the geese were watching over them

How difficult can it be to to change the brake pedal safety switch on a garden tractor? Apparently very difficult. Took almost 5 hours due to the difficulty in accessing the switch, removing the old one, and getting the new one back in. Now it needs adjusted some more, but does work. :banghead:

Strange Drew, I wake up a fair number of mornings with a mild headache also. Couple of sips of hot coffee, it is gone.

Everyone stay safe out there!

75 and rain, going to 85, and probably t-storms when the remnants get here.

Phil, those floors look great. You found a good craftsman. 40 days will fly by.

Ron, great hummingbird pic.

RS, hope that yellow jacket sting heals up today. Still not seeing the usual bunch around our hummingbird feeders this year, nor the bald face ones.

Ted, you definitely deserve a day off...but betcha can't go a whole day.

Mostly, what happened to your priorities...skipping a nap? :)

David, fresh spring rolls...nice.

Thomas, you asked about how we keep the bears from our bird feeders...I was set to reply that when the bears are active, we bring the feeders in, and that we only place enough food for the birds to finish by dark...but that very evening we had a big bear walk up the hill and grab the plastic sunflower tube and bite it open...then lie on the ground and lick up the seeds...so a failure on our plan. When he walked over to one of the hummingbird feeders I yelled and he ran what seemed as fast as a deer back down the hill. Last time I yelled, the group of 3 bears in the yard ignored me.

Got the rest of the mowing done in advance of the tropical depression, and suffered through the worst smell as I neared to road in the frisbee field...on the other side of the fence were about 10 vultures and lots of flies working on a dead deer/roadkill. Glad it is at the far corner of our property.

Took Coco to an internal specialist in the same group as the dermatologist. She works at the group's practice in both Florida and Richmond, and then flies home to Denver. She changed out some meds and thinks a month will tell us whether Coco can recover.

Came home and started hooking up the 3pt sprayer when a neighbor came by and asked me to dig a hole for a grave. So I put the tiller on instead as a counterweight and drove by the dead deer to his farm. They raise alpacas, used to have 60, but now just 24 and 4 llamas. They had a vet on the way to put an old and sick one down, but the backhoe man cancelled out. So with only a FEL, no backhoe and no toothbar, dug him an adequate hole and on the road home, the vet passed in his truck. So in no time, the vet left and I went back over to backfill...the lady was crying and upset...all the remaining alpacas have names and are pets. Very sad. They stopped breeding them a few years ago and are downsizing.

Another neighbor farmer that raises cattle is growing a big field of millet. At first I though he had just replanted his hay, but it started looking funny...now big seed heads. I've seen plenty fields of sorghum, but can't remember seeing one of millet.

Don, sorry about your BIL...recent scientific study says rare to catch Chinese flu outside..just not concentrated enough...so hope you can manage to have your reunion once everybody checks out okay. Early on we wiped down every grocery item, let the mail sit to "cool off" for a couple of days, used gloves in many situations...seems like that was mostly a waste. Early on it was Dr F. saying don't wear masks...then it became must wear masks, then it was masks can make you sick since you breathe your own wastes in concentrated form. We still wear masks in stores, etc, but it seems like common sense good hygiene (washing hands and covering a cough or sneeze) does the most at spreading any respiratory disease.

A friend once suggested using a single scarifier in the box blade to cut a shallow trench. It won't remove the dirt, but it'll be a lot easier to shovel...

Good Morning!!!! 72F @ 7:45AM. Abundant sunshine. Areas of smoke and haze are possible, reducing visibility at times. High 97F. Winds SSW at 5 to 10 mph.
The air quality index has dropped to 142 this morning, unsafe for sensitive people, but it spiked to twice that yesterday. I mostly stayed inside, but did replace the duplex outlet on the generator with a new, made in USA one, but it didn't cure the power issue. Not sure what would keep the Unifi PoE injectors from powering up when a cheap one works fine, but it could be a problem with the wave form, hence one of the times an o'scope would come in handy.

Thanks for the pointers on the oscilloscopes. The Siglent scopes get some nice reviews, but for the life of me I can't figure out if they're battery powered or need A/C. The other issue I'm chasing now is the voltage sags associated with the A/C compressor start, and a storage scope set to trigger on the negative sag would be just the ticket to capture it. You're right about probably not needing four channels, Eric, but for another $150 it might be one of those things to spring for just in case. At that price point, they also come with a built in webserver that allows them to be operated from any web browser, making them more or less cross platform. I also read up on some of the inexpensive modules that use the Lightning connector on iPhones and iPads, but they remind me of the digital bore scopes I have that produce mediocre images at their very low price point.

The evac orders were lifted earlier this week for my Forestville friend, and he called me from his driveway last night and got me outside to look at the moon. He wanted to know what that point of light was above it, so I used an iPhone app to find out it was Jupiter. And this morning I found a Facebook post that both Jupiter and Saturn will be in close proximity to the moon before dawn tomorrow morning. Not sure if that's worth getting out of bed to see, though.

Hope everyone enjoys the weekend!
