Good Morning!!!! 77F @ 8:00AM. Sunny. High 102F. Winds SW at 5 to 10 mph.
Wow! You folks have been busy! Makes it hard to keep up with all that's going on, so this morning, I'm not even gonna try...
Got the oak decking back in the truck yesterday, but not before installing screws into the undersides to keep them from coming apart. There were staples there already, but they weren't holding. Also leaned I didn't get the hatch in the right spot, and ended up drilling and tapping a bunch of holes for the decking at the back. Still need to finish that up today, as it was just too hot at 1PM when I came in for lunch.
That led to setting up the new networking hardware, and what's called a Dream Machine Pro turned into a nightmare. No matter what I did, I couldn't get the setup program to run correctly, and spent hours on the 'net trying to find a solution. Still not clear what's going on, but it may involve updating the firmware, and using SSH at the command line to do it. It's been a while since I did much with UNIX, so I'm rusty, so more homework.
But I did get all the old networking stuff moved over to the new shelves, and other than a few Ethernet cables that are way too long, it's a lot easier to get to and keep track of. Biggest surprise of all came when everything worked with I turned the power back on.:cool2:
Decided to catch one of the lizards last night to start getting them used to being handled, and Tasty wasn't happy with that at all. Didn't want a worm, just wanted out, so I let her go. She hid under the bead blaster, keeping an eye on me, and wouldn't come for another worm for a half hour or so. I guess hunger eventually won out, but she wouldn't come onto my hand. Smart lizard...
About then my house hunting buddy called and asked about septic systems. He'd just returned from Klamath Falls, where he looked at a house with a faint septic smell near the concrete hatch leading to the settling tank. He was told there was a pump down there to move the liquid effluent to the leach field. But he was mostly worried about the smell. I told him it could be something as simple as a poorly fitting lid on the hatch, or something much worse. My advise was to get the name of a reliable and experienced septic person from his realtor, and have a talk with him. His bigger problem is that there are not many properties on the market right now, so prices are up a bit higher than perhaps they should be. He's patient, but doesn't have a lot of time to waste, especially going into winter when any repairs he needs to make will take longer or have to be put off until spring.
Gonna finish up with the truck today, and hopefully get some grading and gravel spreading done where it'll get parked. Then not sure what else the day will bring, but the temps tell me it'll be an inside activity.
Hope everyone enjoys the rest of the weekend.
