Happy to see Drew on here posting more like his old self, even complaining a bit
Thanks for the nice comments. Sometimes I am amazed at this place and the changes, especially who did them. My icloud photo album is like a wayback machine. So too can relate about the hair washing.
We do love it here as I suspect most of you feel about your places. I find your pics awesome. Most days we find time to sit on the porch so to speak, a couple of chairs at front of house overlooking the pool and that view. Have been doing that since the house build itself.
That stand of trees are eucalyptus, planted many years ago. It was a family compound of sorts amid the sugar fields. Believe there is still a cemetery there, house long gone. I do have a local friend just a bit younger than me whose grandparents ran the local store. He tells of being a kid making deliveries on his bike and the old geezer would come out to road for pickup wearing a pith helmet. He never tarried.
I too am somewhat confused about this new defunding push. I grew up respecting the police, taught to think of them as your friend. As a boy scout on of my favorite mentors was a young state trooper, probably not that much older now that I think about it. Sadly he was gunned down in a bank robbery while I was still a teen. Once I got my drivers license I didn’t dread getting a ticket for getting pulled over, but knowing they would tell my parents. Small town, FT chief, 2 PT officers. Last I heard count was closer to 20 but town same size. Sadly today a blue light today is not an indicator of a good experience about to happen. One thing I have never understood or supported is the militarization that started in the 90’s. To my mind, most police are overly armed. Of course that brings up their own safety. My views on that are likely to be thought extreme. Special rules. Kill or attempt to kill a cop and a very public execution within 60 days, a single very narrow appeal could extend that to 90 days. Do so with any type of gun and now it’s 30 days, no appeal. After a year under this rule, any killing of a civilian is automatic charges and dismissal from force except under the very tightest of circumstances.
Extreme for sure, but I’m guessing 3-5 years under these rules would change law and order on both sides of the street. Likely to be some innocent victims along the way but fewer than we see today. I’d also abolish the police unions but that won’t happen. We need to bring back the police as friend feeling. Most of these people are great people doing a stressful, hard job. They can’t really change how they do somethings until we look at what we ask them to do and the tools we give them.
Comment was made referring to military police. Being in Army 20 years and I’d have to say I never felt negative toward them, maybe thought of them more in the community police mode. Don’t recall ever seeing an MP SWAT on post. Even the time I got ticketed I had to just admit to self it was warranted.
