My old 160,000 mile 2003 crew cab with the 6.0L will smoke the tires even with the 3.73 gears after programming out the torque limiting.

My 2005 has a programmer.. I grew up with v8 trucks and muscle cars. I always assumed diesels were slow.. That is until I got my 05.. I was pleasantly surprised at the power when stock.. I was downright blown away after the programmer.. It's a big heavy crew cab 4x4 and it will smoke the tires in four wheel drive.

Are you saying it will smoke 3-4 tires at once empty on launch? If so this would be impressive. Are you sure the source of the smoke isn't coming out the exhaust pipe?

I am still surprised but don't have that much experience with 4x4's at launch. I would just think that is a lot of traction capability to move the truck forward more than spinning the tires quickly enough to smoke. I would have imagined possibly "chirping" the tires but not smoking them. Is your truck an automatic or are you dumping the clutch?

I would have imagined possibly "chirping" the tires but not smoking them. Is your truck an automatic or are you dumping the clutch?

Automatic... It's the torque brother.. 570 ft/lbs stock off the dealer lot... It takes next to nothing to bump the torque up to almost 700 ft/lbs... Tires don't stand a chance to that much torque.

My 6.0 Powerstroke will smoke all 4 in 4 high and 4 low for a 100 feet if I let it. At 55 if I stomp it down the back end will brake lose. This is common on a late model chipped diesel.

Mine is a automatic also. Running about 550 Hp and 750 to 800 Ft Tq. At the drag strip with the truck at 7600# it ran 13.9 @ 98 mph.
