Glow plug indictor

Some would call the nichrome wire a "resistor" but in an application where it "glows" it very well COULD be inline between the power source and the glow plugs.

My glow plug indicator on my 2000 LK 3054 is blown, does anybody know where I can purchase one online? I don't have a dealer close.

Hi Lou - I'm not sure if anybody asked?? But will your engine still start if you turn the ignition on? For those of us that are just  Thank you for posting.

John here - not Lou, but I can answer the question - Yes, it starts even though the indicator is blown. I've started mine three times since the indicator wire burnt out.

I can only attest to my own experience;when the indicator on my 3054 burned out there was NO power being supplied to the glow-plugs. That was the first thing I checked.I called the dealer and asked if I could bypass the resistor(indicator),as it was winter and my unit will not start if the temp is much below 40*.The mechanic told me I could make a "jumper" between a hot wire and the plugs, which is no great revelation, but works if you're careful not to energize them too long,as they are getting more amperage than they get with the resistor in place:cool:

Patches is exactly right. It still starts with enough cranking. I pulled the indicator (resistor) out and taped the leads together. I count 7 seconds and its starts right up. Obviously the glow plugs work this way, I'm just afraid of burning up my glow plugs.

I contacted a dealer thats 80 miles away and he's shipping me the part. Cheaper than the fuel ($3.39/gal) to go get it.

Thanks everybody,
Lou

That's great. My tractor will start without the glow plugs when its above 40 degrees, but if it's below that, I have to crank it alot, really to much, wears on the starter, if you know what I mean. Glow it for 5 seconds and it starts right up. I wonder what the difference is between your tractor and mine? Do you add something to the fuel or do you keep it in a heated garage?

You're fortunate a 3054 starts that well; I keep mine in an unheated garage but have a lower coolant hose heater, which i use, usually for at least an hour, use the glow plugs for (2) 10 second periods, then go to start. The tractor starts but runs roughly for 5-10 seconds after it fires, even though I immediately go back to the glow plugs. It was much worse, so the dealer shimmed the injector pump, which retards the injector timing

Well, I am fortunate. I usually use the glow plug the first time I start it but I don't have to if its not to cold. It does run rough for a few seconds though. Mines a 2000 model with about 800 hours.
