Do you guys turn off fuel line to let engine to shot down? I know it's recommended for other equipment before long storage. What
about a generator since it's being run often as part of maintenance?

Yes. I disconnect power then shut off the fuel. As it surges lean, I partially engage the choke, till it’s run dry. I never use the kill switch. Starts first ir second pull every time. Sometimes not run for 6-12 months. Been doing it with this particular generator for about 20 years. Still runs like new.
I do this with all my small 4-stroke engines that have a fuel shutoff. They definitely start and run better since I started doing it

Run all my generators dry. Drain gas tanks in March, run until carb empty and let them set till early December. The lone exception is a suitcase generator I keep in truck for farm use that has gas in tank and carb year round with double shot of seafoam in tank

run dry, only way you don't need to do anything for years and they start right back up

I just shut mine down with the kill switch. The same with all my gas stuff (2 and 4 cycle), I never drain or run dry and I haven't had any issues for over 25 years.

After a run, I let it idle for 5 minutes to cool down, then I shut off gas and let it die out.
