That makes perfectly good sense. This mower sat outside for about a year. It was used for one season and then placed in the yard. I am fortunate enough to have a nice shelter for my tractor and equipment, so I shouldn't experience this same problem in the future. Plus the fact that I try to maintain what I have so that it will last. Thanks guys.
