I just wanted to update on this.

I had the tractor serviced by Bell Meade Garage in NJ. It turns out that the prior owner had put one or two hydraulic lines in the wrong spot. More importantly, it sounded like there was a prior oil filter fix that wasn't done correctly. Bell Meade redid the work. They also got out the additional random bits of silicone from the prior owner (I bet whatever they did to the oil filter area is why they needed this....).

Tractor works great now and Bell Meade was awesome to work with.

They are right at the front of the transmission section, pages 05-3 to 05-6. Probably some photos later on.

Good luck!
Hey there. I’m having this same issue and the shop guys says the relieve valves were stuck open. Do you happen to have them photos or more exact location of these?

Here's some photos from an eBay listing:

Here's some pages from the service manual:

Good luck. My guess is that it is some of those ports at the bottom. Be careful: there are balls and springs in some!

Ok, so a guy will have to remove that whole unit and take it apart? Looks like heart surgery.

I am not sure. I'm hoping that you will be able to get to those plugs from the bottom, but unfortunately, I don't have any photos from down there.

So this whole unit needs to be taken apart once removed? Looks like heart surgery. Lol

No! There is the hydrostatic transmission (HST) itself and then a plate between it and the main transmission that is perhaps 1-1/4" thick; the plate is shown in the photos. It is all the ports/plugs in this plate that are suspect, especially those at/near the bottom. The plugs might be something like a BSPP thread, but the hex sockets in them are likely metric. And I think you might be able to get to those plugs without removing the HST.

If you did have to take the HST apart, yes, it might not be unlike heart surgery, and probably something a dealer should do. : (

These would be the plugs we are talking about?

No, I think those are the #23 plugs on the top as shown on the 2nd service manual page. You need to get to the #22 plugs on the sides near the bottom, and the plugs by the numbers 20 & 26, and possibly the #43 relief valve on the upper right side. Most of these are shown on the last photo.

Edit: Just had a peek under mine and it isn't going to be easy. Hard to tell on mine because I have some skid shields under the area, but it looks like the oil filter for one thing is in the way.

I don't think the service manual discusses this, but if you can't take the plugs out in-situ, I think that you could pull the HST without pulling the entire transmission/transaxle out. See photo:
