Yes I can see tooling will add up fast, haven't priced boring bars or milling cutters yet, we basically got enough to make round fit inside of round.

Some acessery's did come with lathe like several center drilly thingys, in various sizes, not sure what to use those on yet, then there are those things in the box, dont have a clue what they are for yet.

I bought some angle bar last Monday, 3/8" x 2-1/2 x 3" x 20', I'll make the bench frame out of that, going to some figuring along the way. My son was thinking putting it on casters to roll it around but I'd rather just set it in one place nice and level and make some sort of closure when not in use. I think wheels would be lot more work and unnecessary cost.

It will be interesting to hear your report after one year. At work, we are a machinery manufacturer and milling is 90% of our work and lathe is 10%. At home I have both a lathe and a milling machine, the lathe gets 90% of the work maintaining tractors, implements, and tools. Enjoy the new toy.

I'm sure it will get a good workout by this summer, comes with a supposedly 2 year warranty from Smithy so by Sept I'll know weather it will make a better boat anchor then lathe.

Someone almost got a free 3/4" drive ratchet today, I was about to throw it out the door. I wanted to change the front tire on tractor, grab the ratchet and socket then had to get the hammer to get the socket on, then a pry bar to get socket off, when the son showed up later I said this has got to be fixed or trashes RIGHT now. After about hr I finally got a good working ratchet where the socket goes on and off easy by the push of a button, like it's suppose to and all it took was about six swipes with chainsaw file on the pin where that ball recesses into. The hard part for the son was trying to figure out how it came apart and not loose those tiny pieces, hammer and punch is the key.

1> pry out snap ring with small screwdriver.

2> Punch out pin, and get this small pin tiny spring underneath same time, magnet screw diver for out, but NEEDS no magnetic going back in.

3>Then everything falls right out.

4> Now the file cure and now orks better then new. And theres left over gasket goop left over from former project.

So now I can put the sockets away till needed again and now that shelf room is a premium in my shop so much so that buying more tools has been put on hold til further notice.

NICE!
They need one of those over at Bryant Stoves in Thorndike?

I worked for them 40 years ago at the old place, their lathe back then was twice the size. I was amazed with their sandblast set up, I think they still have the same at the newer place, mostly used to rebuild antique stoves, they make them like new again.

Looks like it痴 moving along nicely. Is that 4x4 1/4 angle?

We wanted 1/4 x 3 x 3" in 20' length but the steel shop didn't have it so I ask for 3/8 angle in anything 20' length, they said yes in 2-1/2" x 2-1/2" and they close in an hr, so bought that, just under $110.00 cut in half, the guy said the 1/4" x3" would be about $25.00 cheaper. Before we went to get steel we kinda ran around with tape, measuring how big a stand and came up with 20' should be plenty, ended up being just barely, amazing how inches adds into feet so quick. Now I'm assuming I can make a lathe stand cheaper then buying one, l'll be upset after all done find one for $150.00.....
