Gaining oil

Sometimes we get a bit complacent. We are all led to believe it’s diesel. But how is you hydraulic oil level? If by chance that’s what’s getting into your crankcase your sump may be getting low. Just thinking without any outside influence. Good luck mann

I have a similar issue on my Bobcat 331's Kubota 2203. Getting a new lift pump first. $20-50 for a fried rice version NO!, $120-135 for genuine Kubota YES!, plus s&h. $216 from Mess... My hydraulic pump is attached with a bell-housing with no apparent way for hyd oil to get into crankcase.

Draw an oil sample and get it analyzed. That will tell you what's in the oil so you don't have to guess.

I think that's the ONLY way to be sure you know where to go looking.

B20 Kubota TLB. It was gaining probably an inch on the dipstick in an hour. I replaced the fuel pump with an oem from Coleman's Kubota. Still gaining the same. Next I removed the injection pump and took it apart and didn't see anything wrong with it, just cleaned and reassembled it. Put it back on and used it for two or three hours and it didn't gain at all. A couple days later I used it and it gained about half inch in probably three hours. It's a cast iron Diesel Kiki pump. Any suggestions on what to do next would be greatly appreciated.

If it looks clean, bottle it and make more. With the price of oil these days, you will have the magic oil making machine as an oil tycoon.

Is that true? This is diesel, not gasoline. I think their primary means of detecting diesel in crankcase oil is a simple viscosity test, which could be reading low due to other factors, such as low-viscosity hydraulic oil in the crankcase.

Are you actually sure that they can differentiate diesel from low-viscosity hydraulic oil, in a standard oil analysis test?

To make sure it’s diesel, lay a paper towel on a clean flat surface, pull dipstick and “flick” dip stick at the paper towel. If there’s diesel present, it will run outwards from the middle of the oil stain.

Maybe instead of saying "trauma patients" I should have said check for a "cracked block"...
