G5200 starting system problem

My yard mower's starting system appears broken. New solenoid didn't fix the problem. Had asimilar problem several years ago and in my memory (faulty at times) of that problem seem to recall that it was a problem with the transmission safety switch. Is this something that I can replace myself? I'm on a limited income and am trying to reduce my farm costs as much as possible.

switch is on the inside rh frame rail, not hard to change, but I'd jump the wires first to see if that's really it.
