FX24 - hard shift in top range

I use an over run clutch, and I use the clutch when I'm shifting. I was just saying what mine does when I don't use the clutch.

Thanks for the tip on the overrunning clutch. I've installed one on my tractor despite being advised that the "live" clutch on my FX24 negated the need for this clutch.

I didn't know what one of these devices was until I went shopping for it, but once I got my hands on one, it was immediately apparent that I was going to install it - even if it was redundant. I bought mine at TSC for $60. If anyone else is considering the purchase, I have some words of warning.

Although the installation instructions called for me to remove the grease zerks and "install the spring pin," the unit does not come with a spring pin. Make sure you leave the store with one. Never having received the Mechanic of the Month award, I didn't know what a "spring pin" was. Undaunted, I determined that one of the thousand or so roll pins I've got would work for this purpose. I found one of the proper size and used it. I tapped it in to the proper depth using a 1/4" drift and, of course, boogered a couple of threads that accept the zerk. No biggie, I've got taps, and looking at the thing I could tell it was 1/8-NPT(27) as I'd expect with a zerk, right? Wrong! 3/8 (28). So I ended up tapping the hole twice.

The 5 minute job is done . . . in about 45 minutes. But I'm glad I installed it. Thanks for your warning.
