F16D, F22D
I own an F16D. I like it so much I am looking for another unit just like it only a little heavier/bigger/more powerful and with Powershift this time. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Is an FX20D or FX22D the direction I should be heading? I would consider an FX24D but I don't think I could get it through the shed doors (5ft. opening) with the rear wheels turned out.

I don't see too many of these around,...not sure why.

Even the F18D is noticably bigger, and actually is very close in size to the F20D and F22D. Also look at the F215/235. The F17D is much closer in size to the F16 than the F18. We really like these tractors and try to keep several in stock.

When shopping for a tractor recently I looked hard at an F16D and an FX18D. As I am over 6 ft tall it was a no-brainer, the F16 didn't fit. I bought the FX18 and it has exceded my expectations - smooth running and plenty of power but still compact enough to work in tight corners. The only thing I wish for is power steering when running the FEL.

In my search I also test drove an F20D. It was about the same size and power as the FX18 but the engine did not run well at low speed and lacking the powershift I found it a bit of a handful to run the loader without stalling the engine.

Thanks. I have never seen a F215/235. What do they look like? What are their specs?

Thanks for the insight. That is exactly one piece of info for which I was looking. Do you mean the F20D did not have good low rpm power or was it just not running properly? I drove an F17D before I bought the F16D and I felt it had less torque under 1500 rpm than my F16D. I did not buy the 17 specifically for this reason. I would avoid the 20 if this is the case. I guess I should drive a 22, 20 and an 18 first.

Anyone else think the F20 has less low rpm power than the FX18? How about a FX22 low rpm power versus the FX20? Which engine is in each of these?

If the F20 that was test driven had less power than the F18, then it was not running right. The 20 has more power than the 18, and the 22 has more yet as you would expect. The torque curve is identical. These are all fine tractors. The F215 is newer, has underhood muffler, automatic glow plugs, and a few other features, like quick turn. Many of these have UFO (automated rear tilt) and power steering is not too unusual. If you were closer you could come test drive a F18, 20, and 22.

Dave is right
I would not trade my F215 for any other tractor out there
All the options that he named are great
You really should test drive one before you make up your mind,or purchase a yanmar.
The quick turn feature is great around trees.
It would be worth your time to fly over to Daves for the day
and get an education on these. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I have a lever on the F215-D that I move and the tractor turns really sharp.
I didnt know what it was at first ( 4 years ago)
But I believe it only has front wheel drive in this mode when I flip the lever,
And it enables you to turn very sharp corners.
The F235-D has it as well.
The 2 digit FX models dont have it 16, 17 18 20 22 24 26 ect..
Only the 3 digit FX & F models 215 235 255 ect..
I think its a late model feature only.
Please correct me if im wrong on this fellas

Ernie, as you know I have a 1991 FF205D. Thus far, I have pulled and pushed just about everything and I didn't notice any sharp turning system. However, I may not have been turning with doing all that stuff. But, I have no unaccounted for levers at this point. I have a strange machine. All time 4wd or AWD, aluminun transmission housing with heat fins, works great so far. bw

Ernie, could that "sharp turn lever" also be called a brake pedal? Isn't that the only reason these things have 2 brake pedals? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: F215/235D?

Does someone have a picture of a F215/235D they could e-mail me or post? Does Dave have a website? Is there a website somewhere with pictures of these?

mtsman,
Here's a photo of an FF205D. The three digit F series tractors look just like it.

You can get through a 5' gate with an FX24 with the tires turned out.

Hey Ernie... How many tractors are you keeping for yourself these days... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif You can only drive one at a time!

The measurements someone sent me were 57" at the outiside edge of the rear tires while turned out. My shed door is 60" but does not have piano hinges so I can only get about 59" worth of clearance. That leaves me about 1" clearance on each side. Too close for me.

Is 57" correct?

Ernie,

May I ask where you found your F215 and Fx235? How do you find dealers with all these newer units?

mtsman,
Well 7 yrs. ago there werent that many people doing this.
The tractors were easy picking. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
And Ebay didnt exist, so the yanmars were plentiful!
the f215 had 195 hrs. on it.
Now everyone and their mother is doing this off their front yard. (more competition= less choices)
Ern.

I'm a couple days behind here, we've been at the World Ag Expo. What a show.

My website isn't up yet, no good excuse really. It is about built and we should upload it in a week or so.

The quick turn is not on all the F215/235's. We've had it on most though, plus on a couple of F155D's we have had.

Ernie, myself and a few others have found a market for people wanting not just a good dependable tractor, but one that has features and abilities that are up to par or better than anything else sold today...new or used. The late model F series Yanmars (and TA230 etc Iseki's, etc) are second to none. I pay quite a bit for them, but they are so nice! There certainly is a good market for the YMxx00 models still and some guys specialize in them, but once you drive a late model series, it's hard not to buy one.

At the Ag Expo, we looked over the new Caterpillar line of CUTs. They are TA Iseki's. You could even switch sheetmetal, dashes, engines, whatever. Almost exact copies. Once I saw that I called from the show and ordered a couple of TA's from Japan.

If anyone wants a picture of a F215D or F235D, send me an email and I will send you some pictures.

Time to get to work.
