Anyone else have a Yanmar that gets exceptionally good (or poor) fuel economy? It took me a long time to accept just how good the fuel economy of the smaller Yanmar really is. I finally convinced myself that the little YM165D and loader (similar to the YM1300D) would do fetch and carry work all day on a tank of fuel.....and the tank isn't all that big to start with.

I have a 1720D, and it will mow for about 8 hours on five gallons of diesel using both 2 and 4 wheel drive.

I have a YM1601D with a backhoe and FEL on it. I've checked the fuel consumption twice and use 1/3 of a gallon of an hour no matter what I am doing. I don't know how much fuel it holds.

The 1401d is the one I use the most. In the 100 hours I have put on it with FEL , box, and tiller, it seems to match Bill's fuel calcs pretty close.

Yours uses diesel fuel? I just top mine off every 100 hours or so to cut down on condensation.../w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

Sure wish Yanmar made a SportUte...

Men, the newer Yannies are even more fuel efficeint. I have only filled my FF205 tank once in an entire year! (but I dont have any attachments yet and keep it in a shed until I move in 2 more years. PTL)

The rule of thumb for equipment designers is to make the fuel tank large enough to support a day of operating time.
On a 240D Yanmar, that equates to a little over 10 hours with the tractor working at 2200rpm.
You know when they run empty right quick.

My yanny has somewhere around a 4gal tank. I mow plus do some grading 3acre at my house adn about 3 acre at neighbors on about 1/4 tank.. I never let tank get less than qt tank on anything I own I get can fill about once every 3 wks

My JD4300 has a Yanmar engine, and in the first 50 hours of operation I've used only around 10-15 gallons. I was amazed. I had been thinking of having a 190 gallon tank installed for fill-ups, until I realized how little fuel this thing uses!

I feel the same way about the overhead diesel fuel tank. I was going to get one until I found that a couple of five gallon jerry cans last me longer than I like to keep the fuel around anyway.
