front weights

I went to local machine shop, found he had some 2 x 10 inch steel stock. Had him cut it to 30 inch length and drill 4 mounting holes and mounted my new bumper. Added 60 or 70 lbs. Cost: $50 plus $2 for paint.

My dealer wanted $425 plus shipping for a set of suitcase weights (240 lbs) and the bracket. I made a simple bracket to hang 300 lbs of barbell weights. I couldn't find any used weights, so I ended up paying $150 for twelve new 25 lb barbell weights.

Check with a tractor repair shop, If they install a FEL on a John Deere or other large tractor, they end up with 8, 104 lb (47 kgm) front end weights, almost every shop I have been to seems to have a stack of old weights around in their junk pile.
I kept the 8 that came off our JD 2955 just haven't made a bracket for them yet as I usually have the FEL on and don't have a brushhog type mower on the Bota (yet)

Thanks, Tomcat--and everyone else. That's another good looking set of weights....I've got to get to work on my own; I've been doing a few too many wheelies lately! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

I used a piece of 21/2 X 2 1/2 square tube about 22" long. I filled it with lead and bolted it to the bottom of my grill guard. That added 62# to the front end. I put a bracket consising of a 12" round plate with a 2" pipe welded to the center. Round plate has four mounting holes for bolts thru wheels. I put 2 pieces of 2 1/2" x 10 1/2" round stock on each wheel. That adds about 300# to rear of tractor. Tractor is a B7500HSD.

O.K. here is what I did. Used two smaller wheel weights that are about 60lbs each. Just bolted them to the front bumper.

Is it realy so difficult to find used suitcase weights in the US?
My local scrapyard always seems to have a few in stock.
I resently bought four IH weights of about 60 lbs each for aproximately $10 each. When I welded a simple bracket from sheet metal found at the same yard and bolted it to my MF35 as you can se in the attached picture.
The small weight is from a dismembered washingmachine, I thought it was better to recycle it!

This is the bracket with weights attached.
I plan to make a bracket for my garden tractor a JD 186 to use two suitcase weights as a rear weight when using the snowplow.

I am going the same route, I just have not gone ahead and finished up yet. I have the threaded bar, the weights (over 400 lbs of my former Universal sized weight set), and bolts to bolt it to myrear tires. I do need to make a front bracket to hang them on the front. I may make somethin the hangs on the frame and the blade.
