Tires Front Tires

wincher,
If you can find wider tires that are the same circumfrence, you would be able to make this work. The problem is that as tires get wider the aspect ratio tends to increase, along with the circumfrence. Take a tape measure and stretch it around your front tire. Then measure the circumfrence of the tire you hope to use. If the two measurements are within an inch or two, you should be OK.

IT isn't the outer diameter that counts on this especially in the woods or on soft ground but the tires diameter without the treads!!!!!!!!!

When in soft ground the treads are often not what the tractor is running on but the main core of the tire.

I've been there and you will have driveline problems!!!!

On soft ground the tires are able to slip, absorbing more of any mismatch in circumfrence. Rolling on hard ground or pavement is where the potential damage can be done. On these surfaces, you would be riding on the lugs of the tires. I always make a point of dropping out of 4 wheel drive when I am crossing pavement or hard surfaces.

As long as the lug heights are about the same, making the circumfrence comparison should work. It would be very difficult to make this measurement at the core surface of the tire.

Mr Wincher: Again, I really think it's all about ratio of the ft. to rear tire size & circumference. I'm sure larger ft tires would "work" but in time would cause premature wear/failure of the 4wd drive train. If you really wanted bigger ft tires, I think you'd proportionally have to increase the rears as well to avoid the bind. What are the circumstances that make you want to upsize? Might an upgrade eventually to an M series be in line? I wondered the exact same thing with my former mx5000, the small ft tires kept spinning under fel load....(no longer an issue with the 8540, but with increased tractor size, one obviously looses maneuverability in the woods) good luck bb
