Yeah that's what I remember, Deere didn't want to put a ROPS on the 7 series which was required at a certain weight and/or configuration.

Someone on the forums compared the frames of a 748 and 758 and they had the same gauge steel but the 758 was missing one bracket or cross member near the front of the machine which was probably for the loader. Otherwise they were nearly identical so not much weight was saved on the frame redesign.

I found an after market FEL by a guy nicknamed Hoosier Pete.......his bucket is call the Buford Bucket ........I bought the extension kit too......to increase the volume on it for hauling mulch....it's what I use it for. Works awesome.....every guy on the forum I found it on "My Tractor Forum"/John Deere section, has loved his....I love mine. The X 758 is a super mower but the 4x4 tires will just eat up your grass is at all soft .
I would go with the 1025R the X 758 is full time four wheel drive also .

Have to correct this a bit. The x758 is AWD, not full time 4x4. You may be thinking about older x748 models that were MFWD. The x758 doesn't send power to the front wheels until needed. It is actually much better at being gentle on your lawn than a full time 4x4 tractor or a 1025R operated in 4x4 mode. My property was very wet, to the point of being soggy, most all of last summer due to a really wet summer here in MN and my x758 was very kind to my lawn. A 1025R would be harsher in conditions like that because it just weighs more. And if you needed 4WD on the 1025 it definitely would rip up grass in turns.

I know this is three months after the OP posted the thread but in case anyone looks at this for reference later...
