I'm considering putting a Horst welding series 1000 snow blade on my Kubota L3010 with a LA482 loader. They make a 72" and 78" wide blade, from what I've read it would seem I should go for the 72" blade which when angles gives a 62" overall width. My question is would I be over-stressing the FEL if I did go for the 78". We don't get large dumps of snow here, or wet heavy snow.

There is a lot of leverage on the blade when angled against the steering not anything where we have seen loader issues.

What has happened is with two big of a blade, like putting an 8' out there when angled pushing the snow the front end would not be able to steer into the snow but be pushed out. This might also happen with just wet snow.

Angling the blade can be a problem. I have to raise the FEL and blade to put weight on front wheel. Then I can steer while plowing. My previous tractor had a snow blade on front but no FEL. Had the same problem. Raise blade to put weight on front tires and steering is back.

The snow would have to be incredibly heavy to over torque the FEL arms and cause damage on your tractor. I think you'll be fine with a 78-inch blade.

Another great manufacturer of FEL blades is Borgford Design and Manufacturing. I do get quite a bit of snow, with snow berms five to six feet in height by the end of winter. Hence, I did quite a bit of research before purchasing my FEL blade and decided on purchasing the Borgford product. I've been quite pleased with the Borgford blade on my tractor. It certainly beats using a FEL bucket. Home www. borgford. com

Thanks for the replies. I do have another question regarding the snow blade. I have a Farm King Y600 snow blower on this tractor which uses my spare remote hydraulic to control the chute rotation. I was thinking I would probably go for the manual angle on the blade instead of the hydraulic option. But was wondering do I I need the bucket tilt hydraulics when using the blade. Could I disconnect the tilt arms and just connect the blade angle hydraulics to those outlets or is it important to still be able to tilt these blades when plowing. The FEL joystick does have a float position.

Here's my 2 cents given my experience. My blade is 6-way adjustable. However, I rarely adjust the blade tilt during the snow season. Once I have the tilt set properly with the skid shoes, I leave it alone. You'll wish you had the ability to adjust the angle (left/right) of the blade quite often, especially if you need to stack the snow or push berms back farther from the road or driveway edge. I have a manual chute on my snow blower (same manufacturer as yours, different brand), and I change my chute angle a lot less often than my blade angle.

The typical installation for a loader mounted plow on a tractor with limited hydraulic capability is to use the bucket circuit for plow angling. But you need a non-regenerative loader spool. And typically, the bucket cylinders are not pinned to the blade frame, but a chain is run from the blade A-frame to a hook welded to the loader's torque tube. This allows finite pitch adjustment for the blade, a degree of float independent of the loader boom, and negates any cylinder 'creep' when the bucket cylinders are maintaining blade pitch without the benefit of being connected to the valve so corrections can be easily made.

I type a big post here and lost it so I'll say look up my new post of the blade I built. Under front loader blade.
