I will send pictures of it before asking any questions. I will read first also. I had to put the axle on a piece of plywood and ski home. I had a Farmall that the pto did the same thing. So I could see the signs. I was wanting to repack the hub anyway.

I could only laugh and think this is going to be fun before Christmas. Silver lining. I won't have to get rid of the old Massey. She just became the most important part of snow removal this winter.

It looks like the part is the Driving Shaft. I just need to get one and install it. There will probably be a problem with a simple o ring or half moon pin that will hold me up for hours. But everything will be good until I loose one of the barings and have to look around in the dark for hours.

I found the part for 98. Anyone know where to get a cheaper price or is that quality. Drive shaft 184.31.104. check with gmparts and there out of stock.

Do these break often? I got my parts book from the dealer used copy and this is the only underlined part in the entire book.

affordable that sound like a good price. I am going to take it apart to make sure that all the parts are okay.

farmall:

Mine did that same thing, I got my parts from Tommy and was all told less than 300 and I replaced pretty much every thing in there 3~4 years ago. The bearings appears OK in mine but I decided to replace them after the axle popped out the looked OK but when I was re-assembling them I found that the one bearing had some damage and had to order the exterior one and replaced both interior and exterior one. I also needed an extra gasket mine was damaged in shipping as the driven axle is heavy and it looked like it was damaged by shipping UPS/Fedx (cant remember which) dropped the box of parts. Tommy sent me a new one right out in mail and I got it from him in 2 days US mail. No charge, I have bought from them 2 or 3 times misc parts and will highly recommend them.

after doing mine the parts you would need minimum is the axle, the inner and outer bearings and the outer seal and gaskets tommy recommends. also probably the felt seal at the top section. Mine was already kind of wiped out and I replaced it..

there are several other places but when you call affordable they seem to know how to talk tractor and know these pieces very well.

I got my stuff from affordable tractors link up there. I also got some shirts for rags or to cloth some homeless guy. :p Great recycling idea.

Before I start to rebuild axle. I need to get this the first spacer that has grooves on the new axle. I had to heat it and bang on it to get it off. Questions are these:

1. What sits on these spacer/baring, a gear, seal, another metal part? mostly, if this piece has some small nicks does it cause problems?

2. How do I press it onto new axle, it is getting stuck on the gearing of the shaft. Do I need to cut a hole in piece of wood then put pipe on the wood and bang on pipe until it sits in place or in heating could it have changed the size? A new peace should not get stuck?

see pictures, thanks for your help.

Give me a call if you need some help, the bearing press's onto the driving shaft, you need to have a bearing press or take to your local auto parts store they can press it on for you,do not heat it.When the bearing press's on the shaft over the 2-1/2 moon keepers it makes a popping sound thats what holds the driving shaft on.Can't see the nicks you are talking about but unless they are where the seal rides it should be fine

Thanks for that information. Do I put all the parts together then have them pressed onto the axle? I'm using the steps that I used to take things apart for reference. But when something falls apart it is hard to know the steps. And the parts manuel can only do so much. Thank god for you guys.

All done and everything is working great. As of today, no noices, no leaks, no stuck in place other then loader was iced to the ground it has been so long. But I'm going to take it easy and greace everything. Then it's back to using my tractor for work then working on my tractor. Put in pictures of this.

Drove around and checked everything out. I greased all the front zirks. I put to much 80-90 and needed to draw some out. They really put the axle plug in a really bad spot. Took it from the none replaced side. It was black and thick then it started to get smoother and more light brown. I need to change all of my oils this summer.

But I have no leases or binds. I moved 3x8 bale 1/4th used with no problems. I also drove down the road slowly.
