There were a couple of local publications like that. WantAdvertiser had categories, and was very good for used cars and equipment.Back in the day the IGA stores had a little publication called the IGA shopper, where you could submit free ads. It came out every Tuesday, and it was common to grab a stack of them and divvy them up at work for later perusal, and you'd have to read the whole thing, which was often 8 pages, as there was no categories or editing of any kind. //
There was a similar publication in Maine called Uncle Henry's.
Always highly variable experiences. We were selling a minivan and the first guy who showed up test drove it, said the radiator was leaking and the transmission was faulty, and offered me $2,000 below asking. You should have seen the look on his face when I told him that there were seven people waiting in line to look at it! The second guy bought it for the asking price.
Bought an 8.5' dinghy for boat show price of $630 one season. Decided I wanted a bigger one and bought a 10' in June. Put the first one up for sale the week before 4th of July, after all the dealer stock had sold out. $800!
