Randy,

I need to stop by and meet some of your wonderful animals! Clearly, you know how to live with them and keep them happy.

Cats are fun too. We have one.

We began to notice bird feathers in the back yard at our other house. We had a large yard with trees and grass. We also had a small barn out in the corner of the place where the yard equipment and other stuff was stored, including boating life jackets. Sometimes the dogs would bark and bark out there.

Finally, Liye began to investigate in earnest and discovered a cat was living out there. She had a nice bed, up high in the life preservers.

So, Liye found the cat and began feeding her. Then she invited her in and named her "kitty". The dogs were very excited so Liye said, "don't bark at Kitty". Simple isn't it? Well, they stopped and became friends with her!

It's funny because later we took Kitty to the vet to get her checked out. The assistant said "what's her name?" Liye said "Kitty". The girl said "yes I know, but what's her name?". Liye said, "her name is Kitty". The Girl said, in a very exasperated and somewhat condescending voice, "we know she's a kitty, but what is her name!?". Liye said, "we call her Kitty". By that time I had walked over to see what the commotion was all about.

So, Kitty moved into our yard, into our home and into our hearts, but we never had a clue where she came from.

Now, whenever one of us begins to talk about her, the other says "I know she's a kitty!"

John we'd be happy to have you out! We have almost enough for a petting zoo, might help on the feed bills to.
It is amazing the different animals you can get together, who would think that wolves would interact with ducks and chickens! I was going to upload a picture of the two with the ducks but it is a video and it isn't on you tube! But Shadow would follow them to the bathroom when they went for their bath at night, and Weasel would lay beside their pen while they were outside during the day! Shadow would always let the cats eat her food if they though they were hungry, and Bob and her were always close, I think Bob just thinks he is a dog, He even used to play with the deer we raised one year!

It is a small pic I took it with my phone about 4 or 5 years ago!

I just got another picture and note from Southwest Wildlife about Sandy. Seems she is doing very well.

Here's what they sent:

"Portrait of Sandy coyote. At about 1-1/2 years old, she's a beautiful, healthy, happy (and slightly spoiled) coyote. There are two single, young male coyotes at the sanctuary who might be good company for her. There may be a man friend in her future!"

John, You have to be happy for the way things have turned out for Sandy. She did turn into a beautiful animal. As I have said in the past you did a good thing taking in that pup and raising her. I'm sure she gave you and your wife lots of enjoyment and entertainment as she did for many of us on TBN that followed your story. Did you ever think that this would be such a popular thread?

Wow.

Just spent two hours reading this thread, and wow is about all I can say.

Very interesting and touching story. I am so happy everything has worked out the best for you and Sandy.

I never dreamed this thread would take off the way it did. I can't think of anything else that could have brought such a wide ranging conversation and an increase in awareness about coyotes. Realizing how much there is to this intelligent, fun, and loving dog can only help her kind.

Liye and I are very happy about the way things have turned out. I rambled on and on about her in this thread, and now she is thrilling many others in a completely different setting. Quite a girl. Captivating.

Okay not a great pic as I took a pic of a pic here but this is Nikki... my Coydog that was a family member for more than a decade. I posted previously here in this thread a little about her. Just wanted to share a photo. We went to a family photo shoot at a studio and Nikki came along. She jumped up on the chair and posed for the shot. Another incredible memory about the intelligence and loyalty of my mixed breed coyote shepherd. Miss her so much. Coyotes are special... they have a bad name but if you ever knew one your tune would be different.

That's a touching picture and story. I don't remember if you said, how long did she live and how did you get her?

See post #504 here. Found in the wild in trouble and nursed her back to health. Thirteen years later, I had to put her down because of a neck problem. Surgery was discussed but prognosis wasn't good. Hardest thing to do was watch her go.... BUT, all of the great memories! If I could ever find another similar to her I wouldn't hesitate a second. Problem is there might not be such an animal out there... haven't found one yet.
