Here's a photo of a Japanese tiller (Yanmar) intended for rice paddys and designed for a 540/750/1000 rpm PTO. Forward rotation. 4.5 ft wide, engine hp 24. This tiller says on its decals that it was designed for this specific tractor.
In the photo: Engine speed 1600 rpm.
The first part here was with pto set to '540'. 540 x 1600/2200).
Then after a few feet I shifted the pto to 1000. (1000 x 1600/2200).
That second part is tilled as fine as cake flour. I decided running at 2200 rpm to get 540 rpm at the pto was what would work best for me.
Also since this is an orchard I need forward rotation. The tiller simply climbs over the roots it finds.
