Tiller forward or reverse tine tiller?

I gonna get a new 60" tiller for my tractor. Which is better, foward directional tines or reverse? If it matters, my ground is somewhat rocky.

A question that has lots of discussion here.
I use a reverse rotation tiller and like it a lot. However, if you have rocky soil I suggest you go with a regular rotation machine. It will kick the rocks out the back instead of bind them up into the tiller. Either way, be sure it has a slip clutch instead of a sheer pin.

IF the rocks are big enough to get jammed up in the tiller then I would also recommend a regular forward rotation one with slip clutch. Mine too is reverse rotation but not rocks around here to worry about. Get the slip clutch regardless.

Thanks guys, I have been looking at a Land Pride reverse and the King Kutter forward. About $900 difference in the price is also leaning me towards the forward, lol.

I have yet to hear anyone bad mouth the KK tillers. MY only concern would be with service after the sale if something should break.

My preference is for the reverse rotation also, but I don't have rocks to worry about so I think you have gotten really good advice.

Heed the rock recommendations. I have lots of 6" plus sized rock on my land. They are always stalling the tiller. I like the one pass operations of the RT tiller but not the rocks.

Reverse rotation is very effective because the tines aren't pushing the tractor before the soil is properly worked.

If you have large rocks just take a more shallow bite and when the tiller bounces over a big one just back up and use a spud bar to remove it safely to the FEL.

I'm afraid there's no getting around hand labor in removing the larger rocks...but doing that will pay dividends in the future.

Savageactor7 is right on about the labor in tilling a field for the first time. I found several rocks to big to be lifted by hand that i had to dig out of the ground. After tilling a 7 acre field I had enough rocks piles up to start a quary.

One option would be to purchase a tiller that the A-frame and gearbox assembly can be reversed for reverse rotation. I know several manufactures make them.
