Quick update on my Big 10. After plowing for the fall and my last mowing (yard is growing slow enough to handle it with the Wonderboy now) I contacted the go kart shop with the dyno. They won't run any engine they don't build. They don't want the liability if it blows up.

So now I guess I need to find a chassis dyno. It's going to be a fun ride on the rollers with R1 ag tires.

It has plenty of torque by the butt dyno though! Letting the clutch out full throttle in 3rd gear and popping a wheelie definitely wakes you up!

Hi anyone have a spare flywheel with ring gear laying around for one of these 186f yanmar clones? Mine will not hold the flywheel to crank taper any more. Flywheel just is crumbling apart evertime I attempt to fix it. Cant shim it wont hold. need a new one. Only got 85 hours on it and is now an anchor that I cant use. Hopefully someone has one. Thanks, Keith.

Keith,

How about the OPS manual and Part Manual diagrams on a Yanmar 186F to get you going.

https://www.powercare.com.au/maintenance-file/Diesel_Engine186.pdf

If your machine is a Yanmar China clone, is it a LiFan? Here's the manual too. See page-24, item 92. :)

Plus, the flywheel is used on other models in the xxxF series too.

And another helping reference. See the Parts Manual section.

And this one from KiPor

You could try this search, which turns up a number of Aliexpress sellers.

If it were me, I might be tempted to take it to a local machine shop to see if a sleeve could be pressed in to solve your problems; it might be faster. I am guessing that you have a defective casting, and hoping that a minor amount of machining will bring it up to par.

You might try your local craigslist for "blown" 186F engines or generators.

All the best,

Peter

Just to give you a heads up, this thread is really a SUB-FORUM for just Yanmar industrial and stand-alone engines. It's a wealth of info here.

So, when anyone in this thread has a question, it's 99% all engine related stuff. Yanmar or clones of Yanmar.

As I mentioned some time ago I have an L70 Yanmar with a Factory option extra deep sump with a bypass filter.
The sump holds approximately 3 quarts. This engine was designed for remote applications requiring extended run times unattended. It also has an intake grid heater for extremely cold starts and is designed to run 500 hours between services.
There is a utube video of me starting it during a subzero cold stretch under username 90cummins.
I purchased it specifically to replace the 9hp L90 originally mounted to a 5000 watt generator head.
This was done to minimize fuel consumption with a short term capacity of 4kw with excellent surge capacity and voltage stability while still meeting my electrical requirements.
This works very nicely with my 4kw Xantrex hybrid off grid battery backup system.
During an outage if the load exceeds 3.2kw the inverter is programmed to assist the generator by pulling power from the batteries.

Finally found this being mentioned in this old scanned brochure: https://cdn.greenmountaingenerators...nmar-L-Series-Brochure-and-Specifications.pdf

My current 2019 Toro Wheelhorse has the single cylinder 14hp Kohler gas engine. Works fine with 575 hours on the meter, but in the back of my mind I was thinking it would be nice to swap out to a diesel. Not really sure where to start but I'm sure there would have to be a little fabrication to the mount plate to get it to work. I would need to know the shaft size and length for sure. What other things would I need to know or be aware of?

Definitely would need electric start, horizontal shaft, and air cooled. Any good brick & mortar or online sources I can check with? Any brands to stay away from? Brands with a good reputation?
