1959 Fordson Power Major - 2018 Yanmar YT347
Soundguy,

Always enjoy your posts over here and at ytmag.com and know that you are a Ford guy. Tooks some pics of the old girl and thought you might be interested. She is a 1959 Fordson Power Major, I inherited her from the previous owners of my property. She just had a complete overhaul and I have put about 5 hours on her since mostly bush hogging. I need to paint the back half of her when I get some time.

One thing I did on my 1961 was get an adaptor from YT to change the old bail type oil filter to a spin on... less than 30 bucks and it sure makes it easy to change now and no mess.

My father bought a FPM new in 1959, was the first PM in the area, they were a good tractor.Sold it in 99. Can remember owners cropping 3 to 5 hundred acreas with them.
They had a good 3PH live PTO & hydraulics, an excellant front dozer blade
set up was also available.

I like that squatty low profile look and the beefy rear tires.

I'll bet she's a peach once you get her painted. heck.. she's a diamond in the rough as is right now. I value 'working condition' vs shiny paint any day.

Unfortunately I have a few of the canister type filters that I need to use first before converting to a spin on. The canister type does not seem that much of a pain but there are a bunch of O rings that you have to get in place when putting the filter on.

I actually had her out yesterday, pulled my neighbors junky house trailer with flat tires out of about six inches of mud. She snorted and grunted and raised her front end up a little, but I was able to get it out of there no sweat. That 600 lbs of wheel weights in the back helps with traction. :D

I have a friend that owns a machine shop so I am going to get him to build bracket to put some front weights on so I don't flip her over. Also plan on getting a ROPS sometime this summer. I don't think I would survive 6k lbs worth of tractor landing on me. They definitely don't build them as heavy these days.

The front weight bracket, and addition of a rops/fops structure will be great additions.

Post pics when you start on it.

Nice tractor .My dad bought a 1962 ford 5000 supermajor we used it on the farm many year's .It looked somewhat like your tractor the power major. There is alot of good info on ssb tractor's under the history section also tractor data.com has the spec's some good info on these old ford /fordson model's that was made in england. I was bailing hay by the time i was 10 year's old and grew up running the old 5000.It bring's back good memory's.His had the hood and fuel tank in ford grey and had a real nice set of wheel weight's .The only thing i remember it was loud and had all the power you wanted .No power steering was tough on the size tractor it was .If plowing you learned real quick to get your thumb's out of the way it would turn quick it gave you a real workout. At the end of a day on it you know you worked and heard the tractor in your sleep the tractor was loud.

Fullpull,

Know what you mean about loud. I think a lot of farmers round here went partially deaf from working one over the years.
My late father grew up on a farm with Fordson Power Major. All his life, anytime he heard a car with a holed muffler or big bore his standard comment was " That boy must think he's driving a Fordson"

My neighbour has one stripped out and converted to a V6 or V8. Not sure which. As far as I know he did all the conversion himself. Sometimes see him in a summer evening running up the road on it. Of course with side open chrome pipes, you hear him long before you see him. Top speed is also probably twice original.

I'll have to see if I can get the spec and a few pics from him sometime.
