It should be similar to my 1900, which also gets stuck occasionally. On the top cover there are some bolts I believe 2, they hold down the ball bearings which act as a detent, loosen those up all the way with just a thread or two remaining this should relieve the pressure and let it shift. Keep in mind if you take the bolts all the way out and shift the lever you'll be chasing detent balls, ask me how I know, lol.
