Ford recalls F-250, F-350, F-450 trucks for faulty tailgate latch

It doesn’t me. I don’t own own one and never willingly will but it doesn’t mean I won’t laugh at it. Personally I think a regular pickup tailgate is ridiculous power assist or not. I’d trade all my hammer for glass hammers before I bought a regular bed pickup again.

You probably wouldn't like the keyless entry system or the audio system that uses flash drives or bluetooth from your phone instead of CD's either. But, the nice thing is - no one is forcing you to buy any of that, it's all optional.

I have no problem with new technology - it's fun to see what they're going to come up with next. The phone connects through the truck's bluetooth interface, I can check the status of the truck through the phone because the truck has a Wi-Fi node. Then there's ForScan if you really want to get into customizing things on your vehicle.

But after I got done complaining about that I’m trying to figure out how to put an “air” gate on my dump truck without air. The lever to unlock the gate is too stiff to do with my left arm and I have to get out of the truck. But even if I had that fixed the tailgate is bent and won’t latch back without assistance.

Real Dump Truck Drivers pull a rope!!!! Can't imagine why anyone would want or need "air" release on their tailgate. Simply ridiculous!!!

If 29 years hadn’t of gotten the better of it I would. It’s too stiff to pull like that. But I’m also too lazy to fix it so I’ll probably just keep using it like it is. At least it does still work 29 years later which is more than you can say for the electric latch.

I could care less about an electric latch, air release on tailgate or easy lift tailgates. I was just funning ya.

I brought my 17 F350 Platinum in for a recall a month or so ago. .. Super easy and fast service. .. The bonus was they washed,waxed and vacuumed the truck for me.. It looked like new when I picked it up.

Actually they do try to force us to buy the crap we don’t want with the thing we do!
They call it a package option meaning for the heated seats we have to accept the extra cost of navigation, electric bed, a useless mirror that tilts down when you shift to reverse or some other crap like that. All I want is the heated seat but have to pay for everything else to get it.
Not everyone wants or has the time or talent to modify something in on thier own and the cost for some similar options installed aftermarket for some become more expensive and no way to tie it up with the financing of the truck.

I have a cousin that has a new F-350. He loves the power tailgate option. He can be in the truck, lower the tailgate without getting out, and back up and hook-up to his 5th wheel. Then finally get out and latch the 5th and plug the umbilical cord in. It saves him a process of having to stop and get out of the truck to lower the tailgate and get back in the truck.
