Recall campaigns go back to the 1920’s as my Model A had a recall for delaminated windshield safety glass… I wonder if recalls expire?

Just had the 2011 Corolla in for the second airbag recall…

BMW also had airbag recall and notice said not to drive but dealer offered no transportation or field service.

Dads 72 Olds snapped a ball joint 9 of us in the 9 passenger wagon… paid to have it fixed and later a recall came out and dad submitted the repair bill and got some money back…

The brake pedal disconnected on a 76 pinto I was driving… fortunate I had a hand brake and able to down shift without incident.

Brothers hemi Durango grenaded due to a known issue of rain water getting past defective manifold gasket… punched a hole through the block…

I think every manufacturer has recalls… some serious and some not so serious…

Some poorly rated vehicles have provided excellent service to me also…

Much of these driveline troubles are the result of the govt regulations of emissions and efficiency across all of the manufacturers. This includes the resulting computer(s) management.
One has to admit that the overall durability, efficiency and power has easily doubled since the days you could open the hood and actually repair it.
What I can't get with it what they cost and why people pay it.😉
edit; and why 80%? of pickup owners don't need a pickup!

The Pinto…aka the crematorium on wheels. I read somewhere that the Tesla and its fires and other problems has a worse record in that regard than the Pinto.

Wrong! Don't believe everything you read.
EV's in general have 80% less moving parts than their gas counterparts. Less things to break.
Also most Tesla "recalls" are over the air updates.
At this point I won't buy anything else but a Tesla.

M
I try to tell people to avoid the COVID trucks. As soon as the gub’ment started shutting everything down, these automakers had to scramble for parts. Parts quality went into the trash. Engineering and design wasn’t far behind. Then they had the disaster with finding good labor when the union started to whine and complain. All of it turned domestic vehicles into a train wreck. I have no desire to own a truck or car built after March 2020.
I just looked at my door decal on my 2020 F250, Built February 2020.

I agree with things constructed during Covid. I'm dealing with some industrial centrifugal fans at a jobsite that were built at the height of Covid, The manufacturers "shop job traveler" and all their shop tested fan performance data says the fans had aluminum impellors with a certain impellor performance profile. The impellors are actually steel with a completely different profile and fail to meet any of the "shop tested performance data".

The same can hold true with people performance during Covid. I was on a jobsite and the site startup crew provided me signed off field test reports that they had commissioned a pump skid and everything worked fine, with "signed-off" test data showing the pump generated 100 PSI of pump discharge pressure.

Turns out the pump was turning backwards and the process and tank return lines were piped backwards. The pump was incapable of creating any pressure.

I just hit 100,000 on my 2020 F250 6.7 The only issue I've had was a drivers side door lock solenoid sticking when it was cold. At my next oil change, I'll have all driveline fluids changed; trans, transfer, front/rear diff, test/change coolant and whatever other fluids need done.

I've been really happy with it. With the crew/longbed, it's really smooth driving.
I just hit 140,000 on my 2006 F350 6.0. A warranty turbo (due to a seal failure) at 10,000 and not one single issue since then. Glowplugs for sure but they're consumables like spark plugs. Not one issue with the rest of the truck. Build quality has deteriorated. My brother picked up a 2005 Toyota Corolla with 250,000 - you wouldn't know it's that old or has that many miles. Apart from sun fade on the fabrics, I'd dare anyone to find a fault with it. Doesn't even have leaks or weeps from anywhere. Early 2000s, before all that integrated electronics bs, was a good time in vehicle manufacturing I think.

Recall = Mia Culpa

My 2018 STX gasser had a couple recalls and a couple warranty jobs, but only routine maintenance at 97K miles.

In my experiences, the dealerships are 10X worse than the factories. Warranties are USELESS if the dealerships cannot or will not do the work.

No plans to buy another new vehicle..🙏

I stand semi-corrected.

One burnt up last weekend at a hiking trailhead in my little podunk town. The news did not identify the make.
The "drive by" media will take the silliest thing and run away with it until the next silly thing trying to make news. I heard it on the radio as I haven't watched the local network TV news since covid and since we got good internet, zero network viewing.

It’s not news if an EV parked by the trailhead.
