Ford Recalling Super Duty Pickups, Issues 'Do Not Drive' Warning for Brakes That Can Suddenly Fail

Unless I missed something, it seems like Ram is the only full sized truck which hasn't been reft with problems in the last 6 years or so.
I think they can all have their problems. I test drove a Ram back in 2020. It threw a fault code and we had to limp back to the dealership.

Ouch! Years ago (1994+-) a coworker drove 100 miles to buy an F150 with his 4 kids in tow. He wasn't 10 miles from the dealership when the engine grenaded. I'm not sure but always suspected somebody forgot to tighten the drain plug.
He had it towed back, tore up the paperwork and walked next door to buy a Dakota, which he drove for years.

I passed a Superduty pulling a really nice 5th wheel camper on the interstate this morning. I confess I gave him way more room than normally needed before pulling back into the travel lane.

They did have the Cummins CP-4 pump recall. So did Ford, but with Ford, the truck had to fail. With Ram, they replaced all pumps, both unfailed and failed. That said a lot to me about Ford. Ram made that an easy recall for me. I was also given a loaner truck.
One full day and it was done.

Love my Ram. Does more than I ever asked. 5&1/2 years now and still love it. Even with its’ standard output Cummins, it pulls massive loads with ease.
Motor Trend Truck of the Year for like 10 years. I was a die-hard fordie forever, then gave GM and Ram a try.
Very happy so far. I will honestly report any future issues as I have no brand loyalty, just preference.

I just hit 100,000 on my 2020 F250 6.7 The only issue I've had was a drivers side door lock solenoid sticking when it was cold. At my next oil change, I'll have all driveline fluids changed; trans, transfer, front/rear diff, test/change coolant and whatever other fluids need done.

I've been really happy with it. With the crew/longbed, it's really smooth driving.

I like hearing this. My 2024 now has 2,400KM. I'm hoping for years of trouble free use.

My 2004 Super Duty has had no major malfunctions....of course, it only has 9300 miles on it...

How the heck do you only have 9300 miles on it? What do you use it for? Heck you're more likely to have components fail just from seals drying out, not actual wear.

You are correct, it's on it's third A/C compressor because the seals dried out (but that was because I used to never use the A/C). Now I leave the A/C on all the time and haven't had a compressor failure in probably 8 years.

I just use it when I need it, but never as a daily driver. I did drive it to work twice when heavy snow was predicted during the day, but otherwise it doesn't see snow or rain either unless absolutely necessary.

I try to tell people to avoid the COVID trucks. As soon as the gub’ment started shutting everything down, these automakers had to scramble for parts. Parts quality went into the trash. Engineering and design wasn’t far behind. Then they had the disaster with finding good labor when the union started to whine and complain. All of it turned domestic vehicles into a train wreck. I have no desire to own a truck or car built after March 2020.

Far as AC is concerned, I believe it states in the owners manual to cycle the AC every 90 days winter and summer. My 1997 F350 7.3 has never had any leaks what so ever and the AC always blows cold (never been recharged either). I don't drive it much as it's a farm truck, but no leaks or any issues and it has 99K miles on it and I bought it new in 97. It's modded a bit with a full Gale Banks upgrade and the E4OD was modified by Fords SVO in Dearborn when I bought it. Only thing I didn't add was air to air and I probably should have. One recall only for the master cylinder fluid level sensor and that took about 15 minutes at the dealer. The replaced the faulty sensor that could have leaked brake fluid with a new 'fused' one.

On thing that pizzees me off with domestic vehicles, especially those sold up here in the north that are driven on treated roads in the winter (mine has never been in the snow, stays garaged all winter) is domestic automakers use steel brakelines wich are prone to corrosion and premature faiure, unlike European builders that use stainless or Ni-Cop brakelines that never corrode.

Couple years back I had to reline the brake lines on it as I had a failure, even though it has never seen salt. Had the same issue with my wife's previous Ford vehicle as well. Have all the tools now to reline brake lines (double flaring tool, double bubble flare tool and tubing bender plus a drawer full of compression fittings), just in case. I'm 100% sold on Ni-Cop brakelines as they never corrode and thank goodness they are pretty easy to replace.
