Is it possible for the hydraulic pump to divert fluid into the crankcase on this model? Did a search and saw this on other models. All help appreciated!

yes if the seal in the front of the hyd. pump goes out it will pump oil into the crankcase

Anyone tackled rebuilding the pump or replacing the seal? How hard of a job is it?

I'd also like to add that you need to find out why the pump shaft seal failed.

Was it just a wear issue and went? or was the pump deadheaded perhaps by a bad hyd valve, non operational relief or relief set to high.. or perhaps even a mis-seated quick disconnect.

on a positive displacement pump, it doesn't take much obstruction to pop a shaft seal.. oil has to go somewhere.

good luck on the issue. post back what you find.

I bought this tractor used and it is a 1998 with only 115 hrs on it. I don't know how much it sat before I got it. I've pretty much put it through the ringer since i got it . I was hoping the seals may have gone bad from just setting inactive.

have you only used it a few minutes and it filled up quick.. or was it a few hours use with gradual fill up?

did 3pt or other remote hyds work normal?

if it was a slow leak.. it might simply be a tired seal. do check the shaft as well for damage or wear where the seal rides.

It was a slow leak. Crankcase level looks to be a quart/quart 1/2 high. Hydraulic reservoir is barely showing on the dipstick. I last checked the fluids maybe 6 hrs run time ago and everything was OK. Lift worked normal. It will still raise my 5ft. bushhog at idle.

slow leaker then.. not a catastrophic dead head.

I know it will cost me more(labor) but I'm thinking about just taking it to my local dealer and have them do it. I need to establish a good working relationship with those guys and this doesn't appear that it will break the bank.
