Fuel filter was changed and having problems bleeding air from fuel system. This is a late 3930 with the one piece fuel filter and water seperator, and also a fuel shut off solenoid. I am having trouble getting air out of the lines. I read that New Holland had directions on the process to purge air from this system, but can't find it online. Could someone walk me through this process if you will Thanks much.

Start with at least a 1/2 tank of fuel.
-Open the bleeder cap on the fuel filter housing until the air bubbles pretty much stop coming out. Close cap.
-Open the small bleeder screw on the injection pump. 5/16" wrench is needed. Let fuel bleed out until no air bubbles present. Try starting.
-If it doesn't fire at this point, you will need to bleed the injectors.
-With a 5/8" wrench, loosen the injector lines on each injector. Crank the engine over until you don't see air bubbles/foam coming out of injectors. Once solid stream of fuel is seen, tighten the lines and try starting.

If you keep seeing air in the system, you may have left a gasket on the fuel filter head and the new filter is not able to seal correctly.

Thank you, would I need the switch on to open the fuel shut off solenoid. I know it needs to be on for it to run, but does it need to be on to get fuel into the injection pump. I will check the filter to make sure it does not have an extra gasket on the filter.

I don't remember, but turn it to on and then there is no question.

I now have determined that the problem is more than likely to be the injection pump that needs to be rebuilt. I am sending the pump and injectors to D&C Diesel in Ky to have them rebuilt. While he has them I will be cleaning the tank and all lines plus a new filter assembly. I think that will solve the problem when it is all back on the tractor.

D&C Diesel. That would Dudley Carr in Falmouth?

I sent the injection pump and injectors to Dudley Carr at D&C Diesel to rebuild. I should get them back in a week or so, and hopefully can get the 3930 up and running soon.
Setting the timing on the tractor is pretty simple using the timing marks on the flywheel which are clearly marked. My 98 New Holland 3930 top dead center is set at 29 degrees according to the label on the valve cover and there is a inspection hole just under the tractor with an arrow mark to set by, I turned the engine till 20 degrees was visible then each mark is two degrees up to 30, then back off the flywheel 1 degree to 29. Then lock the pump down with the locking pin through the pump mounting flange before taking any mounting bolts out.

A word of advice, stay away from the New Holland 3930 made in 1998/1999. They are what they call emission tractors with turbos on them. In my opinion New Holland ruined a good tractor by bowing to the green EPA rules.

Other than the Bosch pump makes them a little more finicky/expensive to fix. They are okay, but I agree that emissionized tractors were less than there earlier non-emissionized equivalents.

So it was running and then it wouldn't run after you changed the fuel filter? Just curious? I've been around diesels all my life and saw a lot of things and just trying to get an idea what took place here. If it wasn't running and you changed the filter in hopes it would run that would make more sense to me. The practice of prefilling filters used to be acceptable but not anymore. As fuel system injection pressures increased and common rail systems came into play it has become a big no no to prefill. Let the system self prime as intended so the filter(s) can catch the contaminants. Hope you have it running now.

Anyone know if I can use a standard injector from a New Holland 3930 in a late 98/99 emission NH 3930 engine?

I bought this tractor not running, didn't know it was a 1998 emission tractor, PO said he changed the fuel filter and he could not get it to run after new filter. To say the least, I have learned a lot about the NH 3930 emission tractor and everything I have learned cost money, rebuilt injection pump, all injectors rebuilt, new filter assembly, not to mention learning how to get the pump set in time to take it off the tractor. It is a learning experience that I love, but after getting it all back on the tractor it runs pretty bad with no power like it is out of time. I stopped at that point waiting for a good day to check out the injectors again.

87800132 Non-emissionized injector
87801538 emissionized injector

These numbers must be for the nozzles for the injectors. I have not been able to find the replacement injectors yet. When I enter the number for the emissionized injector the search takes me to Ebay, Amazon, and a lot of other sites, but all I get is standard Ford NH injectors, nothing for the emission tractors.
My original injectors are marked LRABO 1601A JGR Lucus. I am sure some Diesel shop could direct me to the right nozzles

I wanted to give a little update on the NH 3930. I installed the rebuilt injection pump and injectors along with new fuel filter assembly, and got the tractor started. It didn't run as smooth as I was hoping. I talked to Dudley Carr at D&C Diesel about possible problems. I may have to reset the timing down from 29 degrees on the flywheel a few degrees and see how it runs. I have this tractor in a enclosed shed without heat so I have not been in a hurry to start back on it. I will post another update soon
