as soon as I see the tractor I instinctively scroll faster, I would ignore him, but sometimes his comments make me laugh how wrong they are.
I can't help but see this guy (from Hot Fuzz)

I try not to ignore anybody, because everybody has something valuable to add; even a blind squirrel finds a nut once in a while.
Some people do make that tough.

After all these years I'm still trying to figure out what you get out of making these posts.
Just stating the facts of life, nothing more. I would assume that 99% of people buying a new ride, finance them. Myself, I'm in the 1%.

You finance ANY vehicle or tractor or large implement however and your ability to make the payment changes for some reason like loss of job or divorice or whatever and you miss a payment aor a couple and then not only your credit rating gets dinged hard, but a repo guy like Eb comes and snatches your pride and joy.

Why I make that comment. I'm sure not everyone on here is 100% credit soild and I'm also quite confident that not everyone on here has never had something repossessed either.

When I got out of the Navy and was attending college, I worked for Euclid National Bank part time repossessing vehicles and it was always interesting and sometimes dangerous. Probably why I enjoy watching Eb on YT. Reminds me of what I did decades ago.

Maybe your credit sucks or maybe you have been the subject of a repossession. Don't really matter to me, none of my business anyway. That is between you and your ability to buy a major purchase on credit.

The last time I borrowed money for a car was in 1982, which was also the second and the last time in my life when I have bought a brand new car!

It's great to not to have monthly payments.

There are always great deals available of slightly used vehicles if one just takes the time to shop around a little...

Just to be argumentative; there is an opportunity cost associated with paying cash as well. No such thing as a free lunch. Honestly, purely money talk, you are likely best to fiance through a dealers "preferred lender", get the discounts, and then pay it off quickly.

One thing I did watch was the YT video posted early on in this thread concerning the Maverick and I found it interesting, the comments about lacl of quality control, use of cheap plastic components and the obvious lack of competent design and shielding on the underbody, especially in the rear section of the truck. With anything that costs as much money as the Maverick does, I'd expect a bit more care in assembly, better underbody shielding and higher quality components that would last a few years or at least until the vehicle was paid for which, in my view, is not the case with the Maverick. Of course with today's creative long term financing, that may be 10 years or more and I don't see that vehicle lasting that long, especially up here in the north with the snow and salt coated roads in the wintertime. I'd gibe it maybe 5 years before corrosion and failure of cheap components renders it a bomb.

Nice thing about road salt and CACL is you don't realize the sheet metal is corroding until you can see it coming through on the outer skin. Then it's too late.

Iv'e lost count of how many late model pickup trudks and cars I've observed driving down the e-way with terminal rust in the fender's and between the rear bumpers and the tailgates or trunk lids. I bunch and I bet none of them are over 5 years old as well.

Freindly (waving) fenders are common up here in the north, it seems.

I guess you just keep buying new as the old one rusts away. Viscous circle and continuous payments.

Not for me.

How I always buy them. I prefer a late model, off lease, low mileage buggy with the balance of the factory warranty and maintenance records as well. Yaks some homework, but they are out there.

I never consider buying any vehicle on 'impulse' and I really don't care about the color either. My wife wasn't overly happy with the color of her off lease Burb, it's metallic dark red, which is nothing but a dirt shower on an dirt road but the off lease price was right and it was optioned correctly, not that an LTZ has many options in the first place because it don't. The one option ot did have, besided the Allison was the smaller V8 and the larger V8 that GM installs (called the High Country Edition) is issue prone so it came with the smaller engine coupled with their Hyrdamatic trans. So long as you maintain that slush box with proper fluid changes and aren't towing an Airstream everywhere, it will last a good long time. My wife don't tow squat so tranny choice meant little and I wanted the smaller (5.2V8) anyway. It don't get good mileage but it's a Burb, not an econobox. She gets 22 combined, and not bad for a bus.

In our area no road salt, no rusting of cars or trucks to speak of!

Moss may build up on most anything that's not moving during winter...

A friend who is retired asked me my thoughts on the Ford Maverick as he would like a not so big truck for fishing but still room for 4 adults…

I said let me post on the Tractor site as I don’t know much about new vehicles…OP

OP,
Sorry we are way off track.

You were asking about Ford Maverick, which I know nothing about - my truck is 99 F350 4x4 dually crewcab 7.3 Diesel.
