ok guys I am a newbie to the site but not for working on tractors. I need some help.

I have a 1992 ford 4630 FWA with power steering problems. First it was leaking fluid bad so I bought a kit for new Holland and removed the pump. The kit comes with a couple of seals and a bunch of O-rings. I have a breakdown of the pump to go by when I disassembled the pump. I also cleaned each part and laid it out in order to make reassembly easier. I replaced all the seals and O-rings that were in the kit plus some that I got from ford that was not in the kit. I also replaced the filter in the pump with a kit from ford. I reinstalled the pump and now my power steering sucks. at an idle it is very hard to turn. If I bring the rpm's up some it turns a little easier but it still seems harder than it use to be. I am using the fluid the dealer told me to use so I know it is right plus it is the same as I was using before. If you are moving and the rpm's are up some it seems fine. the gears in the pump looked fine and the bearings had a little wear but it was working fine before the leak. I have even cracked a few of the lines to make sure it does not have air in the lines.

Hopefully I did not leave any thing out. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for any help at all.

Update: Thanks to Harry in KY. I pulled the pump back apart and rechecked the floating bearing blocks and one was a little tight. Lite sanding with 1500 grit paper and it fit much better. The steering still seems a little stiff while it is sitting still at an idle but just a smidge of rpm's and it is fine. Thinking I might still have a little air lock but I think it is good. Going to run it a little and keep an eye on fluid level. If anything changes I will repost. But as of now It seems fixed.

I know some of the Ford compacts have "weak" PS at idle: maybe your 4600 series is similar. Anyway, glad you found a fix.
