I Have a Ford 4600 that to lift a implement you have to go way up with the control before it starts to lift. Maybe 3/4 way or little more. Lifts fine other wise and no hiccups etc. is there a way to adjust it so it starts to move sooner. I have been on several of these old fords and this is the only one that does this. Thank you

You know the position control handle is the Right one yes?
What does the left one do?

The left one is Draft control. The window of operation is very short for the position control lever. Most of the lever movement does nothing. Very strange as all my others work great.

Ok thanks will try it out soon. Hopefully that's the issue.

I don't think the 4600 has a small lever. With the draft lever all the way down you should have more control. Make sure the lever is not slipping on the shaft. There are two flat spots on the shaft and some times the lever will wear and slip off of the flats.

the 4600 has 2 levers inthe quadrant as Ultradog identified.

past that.. if there is no lift resoloution.. time to buy a top cover gasket and oring kit. ;)

Well it doesn't jump or anything. Lift is very solid with no hiccups etc. so your saying it still needs the gasket a oring?

i'm saying you need the gasket and oring kit in hand before you pull the lift cover to adjust the linkage and check her out. if this were a smaller unit i'd say it has a badly worn cam follower pin..

Gotya sound guy and thanks. That's what I was wondering so it's probably something internal. I will check it out.

What did you find out was wrong?

My 4600SU is the same - 80% of the position lever travel does nothing,
just the last/top 20% and it is VERY sensitive -
moving the lever 1/10th of a millimeter makes the 3-PT move up or down!

I need to make it "freeze" in one spot without continually drifting up or down (usually creeps down)

THANKS!

I had a 4600 SU that I sold 4 years ago. She was a beast. I sold here when I purchased the 4630. Are you sure you are moving the position lever? If it is that sensitive, it sounds like you are moving the draft control lever.

DLTrekkers is on the wrong page, a 4600 should have two similarly sized control levers. As mentioned, the inner, left hand lever is the draft control lever and for 100% position control the draft lever needs to be all the way forward/down.
If position control does not work properly then the next step is to pull the hitch cover and inspect the valve and linkages, especially the cam follower pin.

My 4600 has always done the same thing. Well, at least for the last 15 years. Sure doesn稚 seem right.

The SU is a short tractor using 16.9x24 tires. The same rear portion is used on the 4600 and that can have much taller tires. I have seen 16.9x36 on some of them. Now, raise that tractor way up and think about an implement that gets buried in the ground and you need the long throw of the control lever.
