ford 1910 clutch problems

I have a ford 1910 tractor that when i try to engage the pto to operate the finish mower, it grinds while engaging, even at the lowest idle possible w/o stalling the tractor.Whats the problem and whats the fix? thanks inadvance.

You probably have a dual clutch and the pto clutch is either stuck or out of adjustment, If you don't have a service manual get one. It will show you how to adjust it. If you do a search in the N/H forum for dual clutch you will find some good info,

Thanks bill, it is a dual clutch, i know, but thats about all i know. I do have a shop manuel and it describes a adjustment through opening in the clutch housing, i guess what im asking is can i visually see if this adjustment is needed, while tractor is running and trying to engage pto? or just engaging the clutch enough to see problem?

When was the last time you used the pto. How much freeplay do you have in the clutch petal. Do you understand how a dual clutch works. Is this tractor new to you.
