Ford 1710 - Slow and Weak Rear 3pt Lift - Help!

I'm not familiar with this particular tractor, but just thinking out loud here. My Deere has two valves to control the 3PH. One to allow pressure to enter the piston to lift the arms and one to release the pressure from the poston and let the arms down. Assuming this operates as mine does, is there any possibility of some pieces of the old seal being stuck in the release valve not allowing it to close and thus preventing it from building pressure in the piston?

Update: Well, the gauge will not fit without an adapter so we are going to put a hose on it to act as both an adapter and make it more practical to use.

Like JFS indicated, we have confirmed the direction the fluid flows to be as you described, which lead us to the diverter valve/pressure relief valve assembly, which is located on the side of the chassis under the loader control box. We are thinking, as suggested here, that may be the issue. Turning the diverter valve did make a difference in the performance of the lift but the action of the screw is inconsistent and has rough spots as you turn it, leading us to believe there is something broken inside there.

I wanted to replaced the whole assembly box with both valves in it, but both New Holland and Messicks tell me they cannot get it due to the tractor's age. So it sounds like I'm sol on that unless any of you know how I can get my hands on a new one! During the mean time I'm checking into rebuilding it instead.

Before you get too nuts, the valve is never easy to turn.

Lets confirm what it does: It allows the hydraulic fluid to either go directly to the 3pt, or alters its flow to the FEL ports first. It also has a relief valve so if the FEL safety limit is exceeded it will dump the fluid directly to the 3pt. So no matter what direction it is set in, or if the FEL exceeds its limit, full hydraulic pressure and flow goes to the 3pt lift. The FEL diverter valve cannot reduce pressure to the 3pt, only to the FEL.

I think so since it seems that the FEL works fine.

But the way to be absolutely sure is to flip it the other way so no fluid bypasses the FEL and goes directly to the 3pt.

With the valve at 11 o'clock pressurized fluid feeds from the tubing on the right and out the outlet port to the FEL valve. From the FEL fluid returns to the inlet port, drops through the block and heads to the 3pt through the tubing on the left.

If the valve is at 2 o'clock the fluid just goes through the block directly from the the right tube to the left tube and 3pt.

If you guys want to know how much pressure and flow is in the circuit, when the screw is turned, then talk your hyd service tech into loaning you the pressure /flow meter setup.

I have something similar on my Kubota, that lets me turn the screw so the 3pt get all the flow, and if I turn it the other way, the other hyd circuit gets the fluid first. In my case, it is the 3pt log splitter I use. Both circuit have their reliefs.

I would like to thank you all for your input, time, and expertise in trying to help me with this issue. As a longtime forum web-forum user its a pet-eave of mine for someone to ask for help and not have the decency and respect for those who took their time to respond and try to help not to follow-up in return. So, in keeping it real with the old adage that what comes around, goes around, I wanted to provide the following update.

Unfortunately, I was not able to get the unit working. Where I left off is, I never did anything with the diverter valve. Thought about it for a couple weeks (while funds were low) and decided to sell the tractor in its current condition. Surprisingly, I actually came out okay on it (and yes, the gentleman who bought was made aware of all its known shortcomings).

Then, just last Friday I found a John Deere 4100 hydro 4x4 and brought it home yesterday morning!! It'll need a few things so I'm sure I'll be chiming in on the Deere forum and hope to converse with you guys there sometime. But overall it seems to be a pretty solid little machine. And hopefully one of these days as I piddle with my tractor I'll be able join the ranks and be able to help others the same way you have me!

I read thru this thread but I have not solved my problem. When it is cold my 1710 3 pt lifts slow but only at idle. If I have the engine over 1000 RPM it will not lift at all. I am pretty sure I have a bad seal int the cylinder as the 3 pt does sink especially when it is cold - i do not notice it when it is warm other than if I leave shut the tractor off and leave it it will go down in a few hours. I have changed the spin on hydraulic filter and verified that the hydraulic fluid is in good condition, i.e. no milkiness and looks very clean. There are no external leaks.

Change your hyd fluid. You cannot tell the condition by looking at it. All your symptoms are common with moisture in the hyd oil. Make sure you remove all the drain plugs .
