Ford 1700 muffler

Anyone have a reliable source for an aftermarket muffler for a Ford 1700(North American). OEM ones are over $300.00

Try TSC, here is one , not sure if the bolt pattern is the same.

If it isn't cut off the flange and weld the old flange to it if it hasn't rusted away

Ford 1100 fwd tractor with a bad muffler a few years back, and a new one was $500. I sold the tractor to a friend of mine, and he ripped the muffler off on a tree. So...I went to a tractor salvage place (not many around here) and purchased another muffler similar in size. I built a small adapter plate for him to mount it to the exhaust manifold. I will get to see if it is still working right soon, because I am going to go after that tractor in a couple of weeks and try to get it running again. He is bad about not using it often enough and it eventually quits starting.

I had to do this on my 1900 Ford. The base is not the same and most similar mufflers were too large of a diameter. No replacement will look the same as the Ford muffler but maybe you can find a similar foreign donor portion from a junkyard. If you have to, get a simple plate machined with a hole to fit the muffler pipe.

Be careful, I bought an aftermarket one on line years ago, and the flange bolt pattern was wrong. I ended up slotting the holes to fit the bigger pattern on the 1700 head. On the 1600, I just cut off the pipe just below the muffler and picked up a TSC muffler and rain cap. Put a U-clamp on it, and never had an issue. The OEM flanges and pipe is heavy duty, so it will last a lot longer than the mufflers.
