I have a 1986 Ford 1510 4x4 with FEL and a 5' bush hog. I mowed about 4 acres of smooth pasture grass over two and a half hours with no issues as usual. I crossed a shallow ditch and about 30 minutes later the engine slowly reved down and died. When I popped the hood there was a lot of grass blocking the screen to the radiator. So I thought it may have overheated. After cleaning it off and letting it cool down for 30 minutes it started right up and appeared normal. But after about 15 minutes it did the same thing. I have looked all over and can't find any leaks, broken lines, fluid loss, anything.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this issue?

Thanks,
Chris

I had something like this happen on my Ford 1900. It was small yellowjackets that had somehow gotten into the tank and were partially blocking the inlet to the shutoff valve area. Sucked them out with a hose and it was fixed. Shine a flashlight into your tank and look good at the bottom of the tank. If you see any debris just siphon it all out. You can strain the fuel and put it back in. That's what i did.

So my 1510 does not have a fuel filter and water trap like what is in the manual I have. It is just fuel lines straight into an aluminum looking filter body. Does anyone know what type of fuel filter this is and the part number to get it at Napa?

Also I attempted to bleed the fuel lines at the injectors after using the bleed screw as per the manual. However there are 3 bolts very near each other between the fuel line and the injector. On the injector closest to the gas tank/steering wheel when I turn the bolt on the fuel line all three turn and it loosened at the injector/cylinder head. I managed to separate the two but I cannot get a get turn on the bolt with my crescent wrench due to the location to get it tight again. Once I started the engine it ran good but I noticed slight diesel bubbles leaking at the head/injector. Eventually the engine started choking out and during after 20 minutes. Is there a tool anyone can recommend that I can use to tighten them back up?

Thanks
Chris

Throw the "cresent wrench" back in the drawer it came from & go get a 17 or 19mm combination wrench..
Using that wrench is like working on my laptop w/ a sledge hammer..

So this is the inline fuel filter that is on my tractor. As I said above it is not the one in the manual that has a water trap and fuel filter assembly. Is this the correct fuel filter or a workable one that I can replace with the same and expect good results? Or do I need to get the full fuel filter assembly with water trap?

Thanks,
Chris

That is just a "filter" for dirt.. it wont trap water..
With an original set-up, you can "see" the water being trapped thru the bowl.. with the one u have now, you cant..
& the water is what kills most of these small engines.
They also make a clear version of that filter.. I don't know the P# tho..
They're only about 2.00{LOL} so change it..

you should get a good diesel fuel filter with a water trap, it's worth it.. what's on there is a gasoline filter..

The clear one is WIX P# 33971 BUT shouldn't "take the place" of a decent water separator..
Used in conjunction w/ the original set-up, the 33971 would be beneficial.. on any machine..

Where can I find an original or OEM equivalent Fuel Filter Assembly? Model#? I’ve looked and can’t find one. There are many types at the auto parts store that look equivalent. Are these options? Thanks for all the help.

an original seems to be hard to source, a more common one will be much easier to get new elements etc. what you want is a Diesel fuel filter/separator with the glass bowl on the bottom, and the petcock to drain the water.. you'll probably have to figure something out to solidly mount it to the frame, the original used 2 holes on a bracket maybe 4" above the filter.. what is on there now is a gasoline filter for a vehicle with a high pressure pump in the fuel tank for fuel injection.. the filter area is way too small for Diesel, which is thicker, and it don't have the water separator..

That’s just the filter and not the filter assembly with the water separator.

Fuel Filter Assembly

This what you're looking for?

I think that's it. Thanks for that!

One question...before I order do you know what the part description means when it says, "NH3091 Fuel Filter Assembly with Head---Replaces SBA360020030". What is, "with Head"? This one says it fits 1510s but it's twice the price of some others. I'm happy to pay if it's the right part.

I think the head is the mounting bracket, also, the cheaper one don't have a petcock to drain the water!.

The "head" is what the filter/bowl attaches to.. called the filter "head"..
Think of it this way.. the bowl isn't any good without the head..
You can actually use anything you want{cheaper}.. you just have to adapt your lines to it..
Its not uncommon for folks to "upgrade" their filter systems.. theres lots of OEM AND aftermarket companies that sell "universal" filter {head} assemblies, that can be mounted on any piece of equipment.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I’ve put on a new cheaper filter while I wait for the full assembly with water separator. After bleeding at the pump and injectors 3 times she is running good again.

One question... I can still see at the top of the clear fuel filter a pocket of air. I bled the system 3 times and it’s still there. Is this an issue?1A64868B-1538-43F1-A929-999222BF8663.jpeg

Eh, don't sweat it for now. Those filters do that normally. Get the correct filter on it and you'll be golden.
