My Ford 1510 Differential Lock does not lock anymore. I assume I will need to open the top of the transmission. Can anyone shed light on this? It sure would be nice if I could fix it over the summer so I could have it for snowplowing next year.

Here is a link to Ford/NewHolland parts, I selected the differential lock page: Differential & Differential Lock Linkage, 1310, 1510, 1710 | New Holland Agriculture | MyCNH US Store

Looks like there is a bit more to it than on my Case backhoe which you can get to from the outside. If you don't have a service manual, I'd be getting one, might make the job a little easier.

In the future if you need to lock the differential, stop, engage it then take off again, it will engage when wheels slip. Engaging it when under a load and wheel is spinning puts a lot of torque on those little pins that lock it up. It may take it for a while but will eventually shear those pins off.

Until then you can feather one brake on the wheel that is spinning, and it will power out to the other wheel.

Are you sure the mechanism is working? It might be frozen in the unlocked position.
I agree with DJ.
