What engine, hydraulic, power steering, antifreeze types/brands do you use? I am almost at the 50 hr pt and am going to change most if not all. The recommended fluids for transmission/hydraulics and power steering are not available in my area. My dealer stocks/uses another brand at a great price ($23.00 for 5 gal on the transmission/hyd oil). For the power steering, many of the recommended fluids in the manual appear to be automatic transmission fluid (is that right?). Will the Walmart brand of Dexron/Mercon III work fine for power steering? Or can I use the same fluid in the power steering that goes in the transmission/hydraulics?

So far, I have had a couple of hyd leaks under the tractor. I am clearing property and could have been caused by that. None of them were bent but they couldn't be tightened to stop leak (drips). Dealer has it now and will put different hose on bottom--will see if that helps. Also, bent a hyd cylinder (extension) due to pulling something w/backhoe--definitely not recommended. Good news on that is the replacement was only about $400 (dealer cost--will see what I get charged)--I thought it would be much worse.

A lot of fun but I hope my learning is much less expensive in the future.

Blu82, $23 for 5 gallons sounds like a good price to me. You know that no fluids are called out to be changed at 50 hrs, only filters. At 100 hrs you only change the engine oil and filter. The 50 hr fluid changes seam to be on the smaller tractors. Take a look at your operators manual for the recommended service schedule for your tractor.;)

Brian--yes, I know that is what the manual says however on my power steering fluid resevoir it says to ch the filter and fluid at 50 hrs. Not sure why the manual says different. Also, since the backhoe has been worked on, I want to ch the main hyd fluid also. Can't hurt and want to make sure the fluid doesn't have any contaminates.

Do you use the same hyd fluid for both your main system and the power steering? I want to make sure I use the right stuff and the manual shows ATF (auto trans fluid, I believe) as recommended fluids for the steering. It recommends other types of fluids for the main hyd/transmission system.

Also, anyone know of other alternatives for filters? I hear the Mahindra ones are kind of expensive.

The 7520 filters are not that expensive. It is the 15 series filters that are expensive and that is improving. Check the filter pricing at your dealer.

thanks for the input. For the Mahindra dealers, can I use the same hyd fluid in both the power steering and the main hyd/transmission for the 7520 or do I need a type of ATF fluid for the pwr steering?

Also, for the cooling system, can I use regular Prestone that I use for my car or do I need something different? I see the manual has some recommendations but like the recommended pwr steering fluid, I haven't been able to find any at local dealers.

thanks
rob

Use ATF in the Power steering/ Dextron is the same.
As far as the main go to a farm or parts store and get Trans/Hyd Fluid.
It usually universal with other late model tractors
