I recently purchased a log splitter which calls for 9 gallons of hydraulic flluid. My question is - can I use the standard type that I use in my tractor? Thanks in advance.

You mean like AW32 regular hydraulic fluid?
If so, yes. Even if it's tractor hydraulic/transmission oil it should be OK to use. The cylinder on your log splitter works the same as the ones on your tractor, IMO.

AW-32 should be fine. Check your owners manual. If you are using it in 32 degrees or below, I would use ATF. In the forklift industry where they frequently use machines below 0 degrees and lower, they use ATF for hydraulic fluid.

My log splitter called for ATF 22ton MTD (I don't used under 40f) -Ed
