'First Unread' function weird behavior

Normally when I click the link to a thread I've visited before I am taken to the first unread message in that thread. During the last 4 days or so about 50% of the time I now get dumped into the middle of a thread, not at the first unread message. For instance, in the huge thread 'Share Pics of People Hauling or Towing Something Wrong' I was just dumped into the middle (like page 6xx) at messages posted in 2017. The other 50% of the time I end up at the correct location at the first message I have not seen in that thread.

Any ideas what is broken?

I don't know what's broken, but I have to log in every time I visit here. Didn't used to.....and still get some of those crazy side adds.

I'm using PC/Windows 10/Firefox. Try this -> after login never logout.

Sometimes people have their machine settings clear cookies when they leave a website, or not remember pages, or are in privacy mode, etc... those will cause you to have to log in each time. So worth a check for any of those.

My issue on Chrome is after clicking the link on "New Posts" of a thread I have been reading every day, it skips the posts I have not seen.

I just now clicked 3 threads, including this one, on "Today's Posts" that I just finished reading. It went to the first post in each thread. ??

If you have already read all posts in a thread, the next time you click the thread title it will go to the first post. Until another new post comes in. So that is consistent with forum actions I've known.

My issue is that sometimes when there is actually an unread post I don't get sent to it, I get sent to somewhere in the middle of the thread (assuming multiple pages in that thread).

This has been happening to me off and on for a few weeks now. I've been trying to find a pattern as to how and when it happens but cannot. I stay logged on when I leave the site (the 'Remember Me' feature at login) so I thought that logging out and then back in might resolve the problem. No luck. I'm on a PC with the Firefox browser. Clearing all cookies did not help either.

No idea what is wrong, but you are not alone. i am seeing the same jump to the middle on random threads...

Same problem to me, sometimes it goes back several years into the thread instead of going to the first unread post. Been happening for at least a week.

Same thing for me, sometimes it goes to the first post other times it works properly. It's not us it is the site. I never log out.

So, since this seems to be an issue affected multiple people, is there anyone from the admin side reading this that can look into it? I'd be happy to help out from a testing/config side of things as a user being affected.

One with *THINK* though that a forum section called 'News/Feedback' would tend to have forum administration actually looking at it!!?? I mean "feedback" and all. But, hey, I'm just an average idiot.

Ha ha, me too. But it doesn't always happen. I go into the huge Harbor Freight tools that don't suck thread and no issues, right to the correct spot.
