I did some equipment trading, and a few days ago I became the owner of a 1999 Kubota B2710 HSD with an LA401 front loader, a 5' brush hog, a box blade, and a landscaping rake. The tractor has 494 hours on it, and the fellow I got it from says it had full service and an oil change no more than 50 hours ago at a Kubota dealership.

I've got the manuals for the implements, which I've read thoroughly, but have no manual for the tractor. Two days ago I practiced with the box blade and fixed a bad spot in our driveway (in spite of the frozen ground) - and I LIKE this tractor. It's cold here, I can't go out and mess with the Kubota much, and I HAVEN'T EVEN FOUND ALL OF THE CONTROLS YET.

Switching to this Kubota will be a big change for me, as I have been running two 1952 fully restored and rebuilt Ford 8N's for years. I think the Kubota will be perfect for our 6 acre place, and if I like it as well as I think I will I intend to sell the Fords in the spring.

I already had some of the implements I got with the Kubota, so now I have two box blades, two 5' brush hogs, and two landscaping rakes. I also have a post hole digger, a straight blade and a cement mixer that I'll be using on the Kubota. I'd like to get a garden tiller for it eventually.

So - where do I go from here? I think a manual would be very helpful. Are they available?

With good care and maintenance, can I expect this tractor to last for many years to come? I probably only use a tractor about 5 hours a week on average. How many hours can I expect out of it if I take good care of it? The tires are filled with air - should I get them filled with liquid? I'm in the Ozarks, and I work in some steep places.

Thanks for your help! - Sam

My B7100 has 2200 hours on it. A local dealer told me there was one in the area with 10,000 hours on it with only a new clutch.

Congratulations on the "new" tractor! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Yes, manuals are available. Your local Kubota dealer can get them for you, or you can order online from places like Tractorsmart.com .

The Owners manual is part# 6C170-63113, and costs $19.50.
The Shop manual is part# 97897-12271, and costs $74.55.

If you go to the Kubota parts page, you can find the part numbers for maintenance items for your tractor, then order where you please.

The 1999 B2710 with LA401 loader is what I had; great little machine. I would think any dealer should be able to get the manuals, and while they're expensive, in addition to the Workshop Manual, be sure to also order the Illustrated Parts List.

Ozark,

First of all, welcome to TBN. Lots of good people and info here!

I have a B2910. I expect to get 10,000 hours of use out of it. My average usage rate will be about the same as yours..250 hours per year. That means I'll be pushing 97 when I trade it in on a new one...

Wait, who am I kidding??? After forty years together I'll never get rid of her!

All seriousness aside, I fully expect to get 20 years out of my tractors before I even think about replacement.

Note: I said "replacement;" I'm not excluding possible future additions to the fleet sooner! /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

be sure to also order the Illustrated Parts List.

You can get the illustrated parts list on line for free from Tractorsmart.com. At least you used to be able to. I assume you still can. It is in pdf format, but the Acrobat reader is free too...

If I remember correctly, you email them and they will email back a link you can go to, from which you can download the manual.

Hope this helps...and that the parts manuals are still available free on line. The other manuals you have to buy...in hard copy form.

I also went from a Ford 8N to the L3000DT Kubota, not that much different than the B2710 except mine is a gear transmission I believe you have the hydro.

The thing I like the most is power steering with the 4WD a strong second. The Kubota feels a little less stable than the 8N at first, I think because you sit up higher and the wheel base is a little narrower. It took me a little while to get accustomed to the difference, but now I really like the Kubota.

I held on to my Ford 8N for about 3 years figuring I'd use it once in a while but I found I didn't. This fall I sold the 8N to a friend. The more you use the Kubota the more you are going to like it. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Welcome to the wonderful world of orange!

You might want to check with the servicing dealer and see if you can get the service records for your "new" beast. That way you can make sure all of the service was done and that there are no outstanding recalls to be done.
Make sure you have a ROPS. There is a program from 'Bota that will help you out financially if you don't.
Other than normal service your dragon should last many more years. With less than 500 hours it is still note broken in yet.

As of today, I have 914 hours on my B2710 with LA402 loader. Except for the missing paint on the loader bucket and some sloppy grease residue around the fittings it could pass for almost new. Had ALL fluids and filters changed 5 hrs ago and everything looked good. I have made some upgrades, a HD alternator replaced the dynamo, 3 rear remotes, toothbar, and 4 aux lights on the canopy. Although I could always use something bigger, it is just right for my 10+ acres.

10,000 hrs, big H?? That's good to know. If I use the B7800 that I'm about to buy at the same rate as you, it and I may come to the end of the trail together just before I hit 104. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Sure....I hope /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif But even if not, I'm sure gonna enjoy it all in the meantime. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

BTW: Thanks to you and the other nice folks here for all the usefull info that helped in making my decision. I think LOML is happy for me to just buy the 7800 now before I think about it some more and move up to a Grand L!
