First real tractor

I have just purchased my first real tractor...1973 Massey 165...After reading a lot of threads about tractors I settled on the 165 for all around use. I do have some questions that I do need some help with. I found this tractor for what I think was an awesome deal at $2500.00 with a 5ft Bush hog brand grader box included. The tractor seems to be 100% operational including the Multi power tranny and has less than 2000 hrs. I do have a oil leak from the front cotter key hole under the tractor not sure what kind of a job it will be to repair. I do remember reading its the rear main seal more than likely and not the tranny. I have already purchased the owners manual,parts manual, and shop[ manual to try to get a leg up. Also I am wondering what kind of cost I would be looking at for a canopy top for the tractor. Any suggestions guidance or input will be greatly appreciated. I think tractor will make me happy as a pet coon.

I had a MF 180, about the same vintage. loved it. For me, if it's a small leak i kinda leave it alone. But thats me.

Also, I'm sure you're aware, but putting the Multipower in low range going down hill will cause it to free wheel.

Congratulations on your purchase. I've seen a few different types of ROPS installed on the older tractors, assuming yours has one installed the cost of a canopy will depend on its dimensions. There are also some threads in the project forums from peple who have made their own, might be worth checking out if you have the resources and time to consider that possibility.

Yes I was afraid of the proper operation of the multi power so I read first before trying to use it. I have had a 8n for years but the "ole girl" as tough as she is just didn't have the backside for some of the work I am doing.
